Iraq is so fucked up right now

Post by hpdfk »

terrorists captured 3 japanese civilians and threaten to burn them alive if japan doen't withdraw in three days. And japan's only there for humanitarian aid. I saw the video on the news, and it's so disturbing to see these innocent people at gunpoint crying and pleading for help. It's more disturbing than the american civilians who were burned and hung

god, were stuck there forever now at this point. We're losing control of major cities because of this massive rebellion that's killing 30 troops a day. There's no way we'll be out by june now.

Congratulations Bush. You've just made a new Vietnam.

No one seems to be mentioning the huge number of iraqi deaths. As bad as the american deaths are, they are not even close to the number of Iraqi civilians who have died.

agreed. It's horrible on both sides. but right now, I feel a lot less sympathy for the Iraqis than I used to after what's been going on lately.

If this continues come june, if we withdraw, someone worse than saddam will take over. If not, just more lives down the drain.

Like we've all been saying from the beginning, the US is fighting a never ending battle. The "War On Terrorism" can never end because so long as there is one man who wants to strike fear, then the US has lost.

Anyone find it ironic that Terrorist are the ones who are supposed to be striking fear in the public, when for the most part its actually been the American govt striking fear, in not only their citizens, but citizens of the world.

As well, I'd hardly say this was ever a war on terror, as it's name indicated. This was just a gulf war II, since the US govt's goal was to go after Iraq from the get go. Let's just hope the American public wakes up.
I can't wait until the day schools are over-funded and the military is forced to hold bake sales to buy planes.

Neil and Sean 1 : Pro-Busher's 0

Hate to say i told you so.....but i told you so.

Iraq IS the new Vietnam, at this point i would like to use a very profound quote i found awhile back. If you don't understand the ending i suggest you pick up a history book.

"On September 11, 2001 terror came to America. In response, Bush and his circle of friends led us into that age old trap of Us versus Them. We are right, blessed, powerful - they are wrong, evil, weak. The opportunity for america to lead the world toward equality, democracy, and prosperity in the new millennium was thus squandered. Justified in the name of God and country, America is now dealing in its own brand of processed terror - a terror against terror, a terror without end. It has all happened hundreds of times before : We stand watchful and fearful at the gates, waiting for the barbarians, not realizing the only evil that can destroy us is our own. We have learned nothing. Nothing at all." Richard DeGrandpre

good stuff, and all of the pro-bushers seem to have become strangly quiet. Now the only ones left are the fanatical, the blind, and the ignorant. God help us if there is enough of those ilk in America to win the election for a president that is fanatical, blind and ignorant.

"The white dove is gone, the one world has come down hard, so why not share the pain of our problems, when all around are wrong ways, when all around is hurt, i'll roll up in an odd shape and wait, untill the tide has turned.....with anger, i'm dead weight, i'm anchored"- IME, God Rocket (Into the Heart of Las Vegas) ^ Some say this song is about a terrorists thoughts before 911

I felt it in the wind, and i saw it in the sky, i thought it was the end, i thought it was the 4th of July.

don't think there will be. My parents met John Kerry, and he's very charismatic. I don't think this election will come close. Bush's time is over.

I just thought of this. What do you think Kerry will do about Iraq if he wins the election. They can't just withdraw, not after the mess they're in now...

That's true. I think that regarless of who wins we're stuck there for awhile  . There's no quick way out.

Although Kerry would do less international damage after this.

He actually has a lot of international support.

Kerry is going to do whatever he can to get more international support. (I.E. The U.N.). I believe that the lack of UN support gathered by Bush has been a crucial thing that Kerry has spoke about.
I believe your guys' statements about this being the new Vietnam definitely have more backup than saying "no". This war will never end. These Shiite rebels and every other forsaken person opposed to the coalition will never give up. And what sucks is that the Iraqi people are still suffering (yes....I'm sure things have gotten at least a bit better for them) but they are suffering without a massive progress.
So like what......46 soliders or something close to that have died within the last week. If we're there for ten years........

*drum roll......please*

That's 23,920.........that's disturbing.

I did my history, and read about the tet offensive. The north vietnamese launched 70,000 troops on all the major south vietnam cities. The US was pretty successful in fending them off, killing thousands. The problem was that after that the enemy was too few to be concentrated, and a major attack could never be launched again. We fell victim in the jungle that they knew too well.

We're in the same problem. Only recently has there been major fighting. Before that, rebels were able to attack US bases or send suicide bombers because they were small, fast groups. There's no way we can succesfully win this when they're a loosely based force.

yeah it's the same situation, eventually the american loses just became "unaceptable" to the american public and troops were withdrawn. Another thing in common with Vietnam is over looking just how hard the defending country will fight an occupation. They also (like in Vietnam) neglected to make friends with the locals, so they have no one on their side. And finally just like vietnam the local troops are for the most part ignorant to almost everything about iraq's culture, history and politics.

Bush doesn't care how many of his own troops die. The only way they might ever get any troops out of there is after November, if he loses his presidency...

No no........no no...........it's not a question of WHEN. Perhaps we could change the lyrics a bit to Wyclef Jean's "I'll Be Got Till November" for Bush:

The press conference is probably his way of saying "the 73 soldiers that have died this month ISN'T my fault...........really"
