OLP needs to work on websites
OLP needs to work on websites
Does anyone ever get pissed like I do on the fact that OLP does a complete shit job on updating their websites (olp.com and olp.net). I thought the whole point of OLP.net was to keep the fans more in touch with what up with the band. Thank god for Rich and Shelley (olp.cc) or we'd never heard a drop of OLP news for months. I know these aren't the best examples, but look at a band like Simple Plan. Remember I said this isn't the best example. But they update thier page every single day or so. I know OLP is all big on being secluded when recording and all that. But really, how long does it take to write a paragraph or so every week to keep in touch with your fans like us who visit OLP.cc just itching for new news. And Raine was all high on how much of a connection they've made with fans. But look at OLP.net. Nothing! A bit about Jer and Duncan at that pollstar award thing and that was it for months. OLP.com is worse. I think that the fact that you don't update your website consistanly would hurt you over the long run, because alot of fans who don't come here or go to OLP.cc would just stop checking.
i think the guys want to take some time off from everything
i mean, duncan and raine did just have babies.. well their wives did but you get the point.. a new baby isnt exactly a walk in the park and not only that, you have to enjoy those times when they arrise.. if they dont want to post then so be it.. let them enjoy their time off

go fuck yourself.
Good point. It's stupid to make someone think you are going to do stuff for a group of people, then never do it. Much the same way Raine says that he would do stuff to keep up with the fans, it would dishearten someone if they had someone who continually promised a bootleg and never ever ever delivered.
<nam_kablam> I'll be naked holding a ":O" sign while pumping their door

Umm... also... they're musicians... They make music, not websites. If they were dependent on their website to keep people interested then they wouldn't have made it this far.
Simple Plan's fans are more likely to be teenie boppers with short attention spans. If the band didn't keep them updated then they'd move on to the next band. Plane and simple.

You have to admit though, that writing a nice little paragraph and posting it everyday is not time consuming or difficult. A post every week would be nice just to see how the guys are doing..........I don't mind the journal stuff. It would be a lot easier to connect. When they seclude themselves you just want to wait until they come out of their caves. I really like Raine and the boys, just wish they were more social with their fans.
The have no obligation to write a personal message to their fans every week. To think that they do is oftly naive. It would also "be nice" if they threw free concerts in every town. Just think of how nice this would be for their fans. Maybe even concerts in our basements. Now THAT would be showing a real connection. Hell you know what? They should have brought us to Hawaii with them.
The fact is a website is nothing. I doubt they care. You can have the greatest website in the world but if your music is shit no one will care. The only thing the website should be used for is tour dates.

Jim's making pretty valid points..........pretty much any other band on the planet doesn't keep constant updates on their websites. Some probably do.....I'm sure, but many of them probably only do it JUST before or JUST after new music has been released.
This is basically a "quiet period" for OLP........until it's about time for the new album.

No, Mark your point was actually a decent one.
J-Neli, would you stick to the topic and lose the idiotic sarcasm. Its patronizing and disrespectful. I don't mind your arguements to a degree (i'll get to that next) but it would be appreciated in the future if you could keep your rants into the realm if logic.
I don't expect the band to do anything..........i said it was nice.......no news?? please.............their lives are important to some of us fans. Privacy is very important to Raine I know, but at the same time, their music, thoughts on issues, the world in general holds interest to me. Even if its about lava and Hawaii its totally cool. Again, you see Matt Good making posts all the time about he's doing and I'm sure if I look hard enough I can find bands that update much more frequently about everything..............its not that I expect it...........just that it is nice to hear from them.....like hearing from a friend you can't see much.
Whether they actually want to make posts is totally up to them. I don't want to force them to.........that's just stupid. All I am saying is that open channels between the band and fans promotes more friendship and solidarity. It shouldn't come at the cost of their privacy and ability to live as they choose however. So if they don't want to say much..............no problem.

Just because it is of interest to people doesn't mean they have an obligation to reveal information. Matt talks on his website because he wants to. Not because he gives a shit what his fans want.

did you even read my post???
there is no obligation........that's it exactly. Me wishing for one thing doesn't mean I want it at the inconvenience of any of the guys. I said it was nice..........that's it.............if you want to add more into it then fine........I'll let you construe your own assumptions.

The reason you don't hear anything is because there isn't anything going on. If I am not mistaken OLP.COM is thru SONY and OLP.NET is more fan base. I think when the band has things to tell you hear it. I know Stace(NET) has kept people up to date on things when she gets them. The band is going thru a quite period so to speak. Would you feel better if you got a paragrah every week saying Hi this is(OLP) We mixed a song this week, We worked on the CD cover this week, We did nothing to due with the band this week. I think you need to be patient. It sometimes bothers me how people complain that OLP aren't keeping you up to date or doing anything etc. I think people don't realize just how much material the band has put out over the last 4 years. Sure there may be bands who you hear from every week, but that is becuase they are on tour etc. Wasn't there an ON-Tour Journal when OLP did the Canadian tour last winter
As for R/S-even they have times when nothing is written cause it is slow. You also have to realize that the websites are run by a handful of people(maybe) R/S has lots of people sending them info from fans who see the band. Alot of times fans know stuff before the sites have them up. I know when I saw the band and was told some info I passed it along to Rich and Shelley. Just be patient. I am sure by mid summer things will be better cause the record should be out by then and mayb ethey will be planning a tour. .

that's what I was refering to.
It's not even worth it anyways. People here (and I'm not directing it at you, Matt.) assume that OLP have something to owe to their fans. It's been said in countless threads, not just this one. And these people are wrong.

Sony needs to fire whoever designed the layout for www.ourladypeace.com. It's a complete piece of crap.

A lot of people care about them working on the cover or mixing songs and that is totally band related so I dont know how you said it wasnt Gail. I think at least they should post something once a month. They never have been much of a fan friendly band besides maybe signing autographs after the show. There are different types of bands and I guess you just have to realize the differences. Matt Good is a opposite from OLP he wants to hear what his fans think about his music, the world, etc while OLP are content with letting the music speak.
I agree a post from at least one band member a month would be considerate but I wouldnt expect it to happen.
People work hard on websites so lets try no to say they are "pieces of crap" when I highly doubt you can make a better website. The people that update sites like OLP.net and OLP.cc and the CM do it b/c they want to and if there is not much news there is not much they can do. OLP.com has no reason to be changed if there is no news or updates.

Have you seen that website? When you click on it this HUGE window blocks anything on your screen followed by another small pop-up with the actual content. The first time I saw that thing it took me a good minute to find the damn menu.
With so many people running pop-up blockers now-a-days, that site will get shot down before it even has a chance to load.
I'm not complaining about the lack of updates. I am just saying the layout needs an overhaul.
