Ten years ago...

Ten years ago I was three going on four. I'm pretty sure I hadn't heard of OLP and my mom claims that I loved the song Achy Breaky Heart (It's not my fault, my babysitter was a country fan) I never even knew Naveed existed until not even two years ago when I found it in my sister's room (which I often ransack for cds) and was like "Holy Shit, they have five albums?!!!"

As for the direction, I like Gravity a bit less than their other albums but I still can't wait for the next one.

Can't remember where I read it but as I recall Bob Rock told Raine something along the lines of his lyrics being too complex to apeal to the mainstream. It talked further about him simplifying the sound. Originally I figured Gravity would give us something more NAveed like as it was rumoured to be more straight up rock but it wasn't that for me, and that interview is what left me with a bad taste in my mouth. I really wish I could link you to it but I have no idea where to find it. Anyone else know what I'mtalking about?

Never read that exact quote that his lyrics werent mainstream enough. from what i've read/heard I always thought they went to bob rock to make a simple straight forward rock album. and that they wanted bob rock to take all the complex and layered stuff away. aka the reason why he made raine rewrite his lyrics alot. meh I may be wrong but thats what I always thought.

I first heard olp when i was sitting in the back of my babysitters car and she was blaring superman's dead, from then on, whenever i heard it i got excited because my babysitter listened to it, but i had no idea that it was olp until about last year when i started to really get into their music. before then i just heard their songs and liked them, but didn't really make anything of it.

but seriously I honestly feel if Naveed would of came out maybe 1 year earlier in 93( I know they didn't have it recorded yet) I think it would of done a hell of lot better in the States. Actually it wasn't released her till 1995. I will say that music sure has changed in that time. OLP are lucky to still be around cause alot of bands who formed or came out in the 90's aren't around anymore. With the exception of Pearl Jam, I don't know any other band who had success in the 90's who match that success today I know there are alot of bands still around. I mean early 90's. It would be sad if a band from the late 90's wasn't still around. That was only 4-5 years ago. I am also talking US here cause I know that the HIP, BNL, Tea Party, IME/Edwin, MOSIT/David Usher, MGB/Matt Good are still around Then again "What is success?"- Is it selling millions of CD's and winning awards, or is it being able to still release CD's. tour and still have a core fan base.

No, It was just an observation I made while looking something up. I didn't know when in 94, it was released.
WOW, I can't believe they survived 10 years. It seems like yesterday I heard Starseed for the First time and saw the video on Much Music. Imisss MM. Wish we still got it here in the USA. I actually wish I could get MuchMoreRetro.

Wow. They've been around a while. Ten years ago I was five, and the only music I was into was whatever they played on the radio (I vaguely remember Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen songs) and a bunch of tapes I had.

I started becoming an OLP fan three years later. I was in Italy for a year because my dad had to do some research, and I guess Clumsy was popular over there, but cause I started humming the, "and maybe you should sleeeeep" and it drove me nuts because I couldn't remember what came next unless I wasn't paying attention as I hummed. Anyway, when we got back to the states, I was walking the dog with my brother one night, and I asked him what the song was, and he said it was Our Lady Peace, Clumsy. It was the only song from them he had on his playlist. I asked him to download some more, then I got Happiness... for my tenth or elventh birthday, and yeah. Then they were my favorite band.

I love Naveed, because it's so different from everything else they did (although Naveed sounds similar to their Clumsy-SM stuff). Especially Is It Safe.

Gravity I like a lot, but nowhere near as much as the other albums. Even so, I listen to it all the time.

Hm? My brother only had Clumsy the song... and it was a large playlist, so it was not often played.

That is funny. I went to London for the first time in early spring 1998. I had my Clumsy CD with me. I met a few people out at a club one night. They were hanging out in my hotel room the next day and the CD was on the bed. They asked me who OLP were and I told them they were a Rock Band from Canada. Now here is the funny thing. OLP did a tour of England 2 weeks after I went back home(BTW, they were finishing up a tour of the USA) I saw them the day after I came back from London. I always wondered if any of those people I met went to the show. I could see it now. Oh yeah OLP that girl from USa had their CD. I actually did look in the stores for their cd when over there. It took me 4 years before I actually saw OLP in London.

. I still sometimes can't believe I saw them overseas.

On Stage. Yeap that is the only reason I go to an OLP concert. I didn't know there was any other reason, and I am well over 13. :lol:

I am just kidding. I do know what you mean though. Not all TEENS(13-16) go see OLP because Raine is HOT or Steve is Hot or who ever. THere are alot of kids who are really influenced by the music and the lyrics. I wouldn't be surprised if somewhere down the road some young band puts OLP as an influence. It works the other way also. There are lots of Females who go see OLP because of their looks and they are adults. I had to laugh. A few years ago I saw OLP in Toledo, OHIO> THere were these 2 older women on line saying that they are probably the oldest ones theres( they were a little younger then me) I thought it was cool to see some older fans. I asked them what did they like about the band. The one woman goes Raine is hot, he's a total babe. I just nodded my head. My friend( who is my age) and I were kidding around how we will be seeing OLP with Rockers and Canes telling all you young ones to move out of our way. :lol:

I can see it now. Raine at 40, 45 will still probably be having people go OH He is so hot.

THere are alots of people who go see aband for no other reason then they think a band member is hot. It is as old as time itself.

I go to shows because I am a music fan pure an dsimple. Some bands I think are much better live, some I rather hear them on record. That is just me.

Who is K's Choise?
