Arnold Lanni is back, baby!
Ha sanyone ever heard of this Canadian rock group Dakona? I just caught wind of 'em a few hours ago, and upon a bit of investigating, it seems that the mighty Arnold Lanni produced their major label debut album "Perfect Change". The band is also compared quite a lot to OLP. So, has anyone ever heard of these guys?
"When looking up there, I just felt whole, like I belonged. Like one day I too would shine my most brilliant. Sitting there also made me think about sitting through services at my little country church back home. About that never-changing congregation of the same sixty-seven people and everyone has known you since before you were born. Now, out here in the real world, everything just seemed more vivid than when I used to sit in that little pew. That pew that was now so, so far away from where I was. I feared I had somehow left God behind there, too. I feared he was somehow just sitting there, saving my seat on the fifth pew from the front row, just waiting on me to come back. I left so quickly, I worried that he may not have noticed I was gone. And, now, I’m just too far away to find. So he’s just sitting there, patiently waiting on me to come back. I closed my eyes and prayed a moment. I hoped more than anything that he could still hear me." -an excerpt from my novella, A Sea of Fallen Leaves.

Dakona is my favourite band. I adore their song "Revolving".
Come visit the message board (take the link from http://www.dakona.ca) sometime. I'm "lynnever" there.

I thought Arnold Lanni was a great producer. He did great things with OLP and Finger Eleven. I thought there was something wrong with both bands when they didn't get him to do both of their last albums (which both sucked, so I didn't think it was a mere coincidence). Yet he's produced Simple Plan, who are rubbish. I guess it depends on the mix. I think David Bottrill is a good producer, who's worked with Tool and Silverchair. But he also produced Godsmack's last album. They're terrible. So you never know.
If Dakona is drawing OLP comparisons, I don't know if that's a good thing. Old OLP? New OLP? If it's old OLP, then it might sound like old Finger Eleven too. But if it sounds like new OLP, it won't sound like old Finger Eleven, or new Finger Eleven. Three Days Graces sounds like new Finger Eleven, which is obvious since TDG is just trying to copy Finger Eleven. And who would want to copy new Finger Eleven since it's pretty terrible?

Uh, let's see. Both from Toronto (I know, big deal). F11 labeled as an influence of 3DG. Singers sound practically the same. The 3DG logo (the ||| ) is very similar to the cover art for F11's newest album. 3DG's cover art is very, very, very, very close to F11's second album cover. It's like they're F11 clones.
Except F11 can still write more than 25 words per song. How many times does the lead singer in 3DG have to repeat the same parts? "Every time... blah blah blah. I hate everything about you."
REPEAT!

The art is similar yes, but that's the only similarity. I've heard both bands extensively and I do not think the lead singer from 3DG sounds all that much like scott from F11... In fact I kept hearing that and became pretty annoyed at the comparison... and yeah I don't like 3DG, I just don't think they have anything special to offer...
Like you said, they are really repetitive, that's definitely true. Maybe they'll write the first song to have only one word and be 4 minutes long or more!

They remind me of Happiness . . era OLP but without as many layers.
