avril lavigne's new single/cd
I was flicking through the radio stations in the car the other morning and the song was on one of the stations - I had no idea it was Avril but neither I or my friend liked it so we turned over - it was only when we were still flicking around and heard the dj talk about it that we realised for sure who it was (though we had our suspicions). I can't have a proper opinion since I haven't heard the whole song, but the bit i did hear was her just repeating the same words over and they weren't even good words and her voice was really annoying.
Open your eyes to nights and days, you close them up and float away
and somehow inbetween you've got to master lying to yourself
you back the cause, get out of school, you get a job, the job gets you
and somehow every day you end up serving somebody else
now if that ain't panic that you're feeling, then you damn well better start
you can drive it into that head of yours with the hammer in your heart.
And it's alriiiiiiiight now, take the world and make it yours again.

I mean, sure it was her music and everything but obviously it wasn't lyrically spectacular or anything groundbreaking. This album should be more solid. She has been promoting the last one for so long that she has definately had time to grow up and try to branch out from the same songs she has been playing for the last couple of years.

The Matrix wrote everything on her first album. I know they didn't do anything for her new one, though.
And sorry, but I don't have any respect for her. When she first came out, her image was "Yeah, I'm punk rock." And then when people were laughing at her and said that she wasn't fooling anyone, she reverted and said "I never said I was punk rock" and ditched that ridiculous tie and tank top look that was as equally manufactured as her music.
And I'm surprised anyone who's a fan of hers can be a fan of a band that wrote "Carousel," "The Birdman," and "Everyone's a Junkie." Of course, they also did write "Somewhere Out There"...

I found out...I think it was on chart attack, that the new single is one of Bens, not Chantal or Raine.
how come she had other already famous people do everything on this album?

Goodbye you liar,
Well you sipped from the cup but you don't own up to anything
Then you think you will inspire
Take apart your head
(and I wish I could inspire)
Take apart your demons, then you add it to the list.

the matrix co-wrote the songs on her first album .. not the entire album
meh, i like her .. i've seen her live and she was great and sounded good and i'd see her live again. i have her first album, and i have her dvd .. i enjoy her dvd quite a bit actually .. my our lady peace dvd has been shelved since day one .. i still watch avril's all the time .. *shrugs*
the whole punk image started because of her fans .. it's just another label .. i'm not fond of labels to begin with and i certainly don't let things like that determine whether or not a band is worthy of my respect ..

Well, I heard the 3 new songs from Avril and "Don't Tell Me" is the poppiest one. "DayDream" and "Take Me Away" really sounds like Alanis Morissette and I find them ery good. I like most of the songs of her debute album, but Sk8er Boi kinda ruined a little bit the album. I expect a good 2nd album for Avril, but she definitely won't sell as many copies as "Let Go"

Umm...I believe you mean Carnival. And I realize your a newbie so a word to the wise: we've had these discussions tons of times and I think you'll find valid perspectives you've never considered before. Listen before you speak. Otherwise you end up looking like a jackass.
