it was probably the "favourite raine vocal moments" thread.

That sounds about right. I knew it had something to do with a favorite moment.

This really is hard cause there is so much to chose from. I will give some of my faves cause I can't pick just one.

Some Fave Moments:(live and CD)
If You Believe: where it sounds like(not to sound vulgur) Raine is having an orgasm. It sounds like he is saying Agh, Agh, AIEEEE. It is the part where he screams toward the end then it goes into the guitar part before finishing out the chorus. Plus I love the whole Rythm Guitar part( I use to think it was lead till I saw Jamie palying the part I like Live)

Naveed: all versions. This is one song that to me has always sounded great on CD or Live. With the Bass intro or the more guitar intro. Accoustic, Rocked out or what have you. I guess that is why iti smy favorite song. And let's not forget the It's gone part. My friend told me he says that 16 times. I can't believe she counted it. :D

Superman's Dead: Raine's guitar part. Same with In Repair(although he didn't play guitar on the last tour with this song) I also love the "Take this time to figure it out" etc. part. :D

CarCrash Live-The way Mike did the intro live. I loved watching him play that.

Stealing Babies live-the whole ending with the guitar and Raine sort of fading out vocally. He would do the Weigh Down part over and over. If anyone saw them open for Creed in 99', they will know what I am talking about. He would just sing over and over the Weigh Down part while the guitar faded. it was awesome. I miss that song live

Blister-the whole erie feeling of the keyboard. :D

Hope(lve 1995-Mike's Solo with Raine ablibing-I saw something and she follows me etc.) :D

Birdman-all live versions. Ihave to say that before Steve really did the solo the whole ending was incredible how you would just have the drums, guitar and bass at the end(where Raine would do the dance-that was intense)- I also love how they had the Carnival mixed in there. :D

Bring Back The Sun-the bass and how the guitar seems to wail into Raine singing- I know I hurt etc part. I love that part -especially live.

Starseed-everything. That song live to me always has a great vibe. No matter how the show is going-it seems this is the one song where the audience comes alive. It has such a force. :D

Mafia where he goes Are You Waiting

The guitar in WIC beginning. THat is pretty cool. Plus if there was someway to knock out the vocals to Whatever. I love the drum and guitar of that live. :D

I am sure there are more, but these are the ones I can think of off hand.

There are so many others but we will leave it at this.

I feel love, I feel a power. It comes to me in the darkest hour. And I want to feel it again

Considering the fact that I'm supposed to be doing homework right now, I'll only post one . . .

In Are You Sad? When the music stops for a moment and Raine sings "Oh just stop pretending when they say your nothing" . . . That part rarely fails in causing me to drop something I'm holding or catch my breath.

Yeah, I really like the end of Are You Sad when the chorus keeps on going on and on, but you don't really notice because it sounds so good.

Also, I know it sounds stupid, but in happiness And The Fish when Raine sings 'Happiness Is Not A Fish That You Can Catch.' I love that part. Because the first time i heard it i was like 'Holy crap! He just said the name of the cd!' I don't know, i just really like that part.

The first time the powerchords hit in Starseed, always makes my hair stand up. I dont like the way its done live now, too fast. Im not sure how they used to do it but I dont like the way the new boy plays it at all.

Also on Not Enough, after the moshing bit when Raine starts shouting, what a bit.

Given all the bootlegs, acoustics, and alternate recordings readily available, this'll take some thought! Hmmm... first, I can pluck out certain lines from various songs that come across as very meaningful to me:

"There's nothing fake about this (you need to let me in)" - Clumsy
It's a statement I think we can all relate to at some time in our lives. For me, I dunno, it just sort of defines the whole song. Deep down, I think Clumsy will always be the song that rings true for me the most.

"I'm trying to reach your hand, but
I'm on fire,
Never meant to
Fade
Away"
- Are You Sad
The line from Clumsy actually reminded me of this verse. And it's kinda cool, reading them back to back, they sort of connect. :D Again, powerful statement, and a wonderfully imaginative way of conveying the theme of that song.

"You're happy you're in love,
You need someone to hate"
- Superman's Dead
Nothing really striking about the choice of words, I just love the utter disdain in Raine's voice.

[shadow=indigo]"You wonder why,
I don't know
You shout at me,
Let me go"[/shadow] - Blister
To me, Blister is about resigned acceptance. That bridge towards the end seems like one last attempt at resistance, but appropriately, it doesn't come across with a great deal of enthusiasm.

"I don't wanna hear who walked on water" - Thief
I don't quite know how to explain it, but this is probably my favorite line from any song ever. Brief, but so very poigant and brutally honest. The fact that the song stems from a very real tragedy solidifies the hopelessness of that statement.

Ok enough of those for now... as for moments that just stand out for me:

-As previously mentioned, the screaming launching into the guitar solo on DVD version of In Repair

-Steve's solo in Are You Sad on the live CD

-The wailing outro (which lasts for about a minute) on the piano version of Julia

-The whispered, "Or maybe that's just me" following the fadeout on the Blind Anniversary demo

-The guitar opening on "Not Afraid." Hearing it just instantly brings a smile to my face. :D

-The extended opening on SM-era live performances of Naveed ("There's a young man at the back of the house" or some such). If we could get this intro PLUS a Life interlude in the same song, oh man...

-The acoustic version of Lying Awake at Southern Tracks is just phenomenal. The whole damn thing.

-As someone else mentioned, the repeated "Weighed" to close out live versions of Stealing Babies. Sooo trippy.

And last but not least...

-The unintentionally hilarious video for Out of Here! Hey, I gotta give some love to the videos. It was a respectable effort.

I'm sure I'll think of some more later.

Hmm.. good post.

My favourite lines:

"Ordinary's just not good enough today."
"The future's sold out, there's no use screaming."
"No one listens, but I'm okay with it."

There's definitely a lot more.

There are many many many moments.

No way I could name them all. If I could, then I probably wouldnt love the band the way that I do! :P

One of my favorite moments in the DVD is during the beginning of Naveed, after Raine starts singing. There is a camera angel that is moving and goes from the first row of the audience who are all staring at Steve to him playing. That is one of my favorite moments from that whole thing and I honestly dont know why.

Then there is the Live and Unreleased version of Car Crash. Thats one of my favorites.

Not so much the bridge from "Do You Like It" but what was happening one time I was listening to it. I don't know if it had anything to do with the song but I sorta had an epiphany at that moment.

"Hopelessly"

The beginning of Neon Crossing.

"Depressed? Come here, try this"

If you believe

"but I'm flesh and I tear"

the Needle and the Damage Done cover.

yeah....I could go on.

I think i'm going to go through every song in my head to find something that strikes me.

Birdman - A live in Atlanta version i think? The way he says "does it make you mad, does it make you FUCKING MAD?"

Supersattelite - "nothing dazzles me"

Starseed - The yeah-hee's, and how the guitar solo sounds so complex while remaining so simple.

Hope - when he sings "into the dark" a heck of a lot of times after the bridge, and of course the live solo.

Naveed - I believe it was in seattle in '98? It's the version with Sol Fox reciting the our lady peace poem. Anyways, the poem's awesome, but what really got me was mike's guitar solo that followed immediately.

Dirty Walls - The guitar intro.

Denied - the singing leading up the the last chorus right after the guitar solo

Julia - Piano...just the whole thing, but really the very ending.

Under Zenith - "sitting by a frozen man"

Neon Crossing - "oh i can't wait and i can't be the liar, liar"

Superman's Dead - the "why-ee-ii-ee-ii-ee yeah ha ha" part after the second chorus.

Automatic flowers - guitar solo, and the live scream right before it.

Carnival - just amazing with teardrop

Big Dumb Rocket - the guitar at the begining live

4am - when he screams "and i hope to god i figure out what's wrong"

Shaking - "So...you wonder 'bout the past" that whole part

Clumsy - That guitar line that mike plays in the second verse, holy god!

Hello Oskar - The second prechorus, where he says "but he's not him, not him.." and then SCREAMS really shortly "self"

Let You Down - guitar solo

Story of 100 Aisles - chorus

Car Crash - When live he screams his way into the solo

One man Army - The perfect our lady peace song. If you'll notice, the drums are amazing, the bass line is, the guitar is fantastic, and so is the singing.

That's it for now, i'm tired.
Don't ask questions, just accept it.

Now that I actually have time I'll post more, even though there's no way I could get them all

Everyone's a Junkie - When it's all layered and one voice is going "Big Green Monkey, Everyone's a Junkie, oh oh oh oh" and the other is singing "You fake, you squeal. . .you grow, you quake..." and then they both sort of join together and sing "Your the big green monkey, everyone's a junkie!!"

Clumsy - When Raine sings the prechorus softly to almost no music and then after a second of silence the chorus comes in loudly

Live Superman's Dead - When Raine plays his little solo thingy and most of the crowd is just like; :wtf: and then the opening chords are played and the audience practically explodes

there are so many more. . . every time I listen (especially to SM) I'm finding something that suddenly seems special.

ok... i've been ignoring this thread because I didn't wanna be tempted to put my 2 cents in, but here we go... my list will be long.

Naveed

Birdman- live intro... i also like the way raine used to sing "i see the man, he's standing there and oh this man's a liar..." like in trubadour in 97.

Starseed- intro was one of the reasons i got into olp

Naveed- "is gone, is gone..."

I love the demo of Neon crossing where Raine sings "Don't want to be at the middle of the sea where the stars come raging in"

Clumsy

Superman's Dead- part where it slows down

Automatic Flowers- i love the intro on the video for some reason

4am- all of it.

hello oskar- i love the chorus

story of 100 aisles- chorus and drums

car crash- i love acoustic versions of this song- i find them so eerie

Happiness...

One man army just kicks ass

potato girl- guitar and the faster singing of raine

blister- whole song

iah- i love the chorus- one of my faves from them

waited- guitar intro

annie, consequences of laughing, and stealing babies- all just amazing

SM

in repair- i love the live dvd version- one of my faves all time

seriously, the whole album is amazing- every sound and lyric of it is just amazing. the only song i coulda gone without is middle of yesterday

Gravity

guitar in all the songs is pretty heavy- i like it

i love the whisperings of raine at the beginning of story bout a girl

i love the live acoustic version in europe of them playing bbts... the best part is where raine hits his falsetto absolutley perfectly when singing "mystery is gone... gone..."

rarities

not afraid- high falsetto parts and intro

tomorrow never knows- raines singing of "of the beginning" at the end of the song- i love how he finds like 20 different tones to sing it in

whatever- intro

the winner, however, goes to the piano version of julia. what a beautiful song.

sorry for the long post.

One of my favorite moments in a OLP song is in 4am. It happens during the first chorus when the acoustic guitar kicks in

I have that also. Can't remember which SHow it was from. ALso I think it was Summersault 2000-where he would sing " I see a man and you know this man is a liar" He repeats it for a few lines then goes into I feel him close.

I never really realized it till recently but Birdman has pretty much been done live since 1994. They have revamped it and such. If you saw them recently. Raine spoke the first verse till the chorus. It was preety interesting. I like how they revamp some of the older songs now. It makes you love them more. Well I do anyway.

I enjoyed in one of the version of the Birdman, Raine sang "you see the mold of the man that you made, and you didn't even know, it was all on the outside"
I can't wait until the day schools are over-funded and the military is forced to hold bake sales to buy planes.

Do you know where that was from? I never heard that before. Then again, Raine is always adding lyrics to songs. He is so faint sometimes you don't notice.

I'm trying to find it right now...

OK its Rochy, August 12th 2002. He actually says "Try and look at me, I see the mold and the man that you hate and if you didn't know that it's all on the outside."

He mumbles it so its a lil hard to get but after a couple listens it gets clearer.

when you find it let me know. I wonder if I have it. I have bunch of stuff I haven't heard in awhile. I was listening to the Irving Plaza show the other day. MEMORIES. I was at those shows and it brought back so many memories. The whole SM tour was incredible. they played alot of great shows on that tour. I loved it. I love the songs of SM live. they just sound so much better.

I forgot one song. If you get a copy of Vanderbelt(7/01) it is great how they do PotatoGirl into Thief. YOu can't tell where PG ends and Thief begins. It jsut blends into it. I love that show. Too bad my copy was stolen and the one someone remade for me isn't that great on the the last 1/2. Still I was at that show and remember it well.

Ahem.

I was at that shoooooooow! I was also insanely happy with my life then. Good times were had that entire summer.

That is all.
I faced death. I went in with my arms swinging. But I heard my own breath and had to face that I'm still living. I'm still flesh. I hold on to awful feelings. I'm not dead... My chest still draws breath. I hold it. I'm buoyant. There's no end.
