Anyone Else Seem To Do This?

Post by Baby Thief »

So recently I had been getting into new bands. It started with Matt Good back in the summer and then went on to others like mars Volta, at the drive in, idlewild, dredg, and many others. however, just today i've gone back to my cd player and listened to Happiness... And ofcourse, now i am back to being stuck on OLP. And you see, this isn't the first time this has happened. I seem to do the 360 thing. Soon i'll go back to matt good and then on to another and sooner or later come back to listening to OLP again.

Anyways. I hope you understand what i am trying to say.

it happens to me too, it's ussually because you either burn out on some of your new favorites, or you get some time away from a band and form a craving again. The same thing happens to me for albums

yep, I do it too. Been going between matt Good, Bright Eyes, Will Hoge, and OLP.
"When looking up there, I just felt whole, like I belonged. Like one day I too would shine my most brilliant. Sitting there also made me think about sitting through services at my little country church back home. About that never-changing congregation of the same sixty-seven people and everyone has known you since before you were born. Now, out here in the real world, everything just seemed more vivid than when I used to sit in that little pew. That pew that was now so, so far away from where I was. I feared I had somehow left God behind there, too. I feared he was somehow just sitting there, saving my seat on the fifth pew from the front row, just waiting on me to come back. I left so quickly, I worried that he may not have noticed I was gone. And, now, I’m just too far away to find. So he’s just sitting there, patiently waiting on me to come back. I closed my eyes and prayed a moment. I hoped more than anything that he could still hear me." -an excerpt from my novella, A Sea of Fallen Leaves.

Why should it be a problem if you like to listen to a certain band one day and a different band another? I have so many cd's to choose from, but I still listen to alot of the older ones. It shouldn't matter if one day you are really in an OLP mode and Matt Good mode another day.

You can like more then one type of music or band at one time. I am proof of that. I am just a really big music fan. It would shock people to see the stuff in my colection.

I feel love, I feel a power. It comes to me in the darkest hour. And I want to feel it again

I find myself doing the same thing with Spiritual Machines quite a bit.

On the SM note: Did you guys know that there is an episode of "Friends" where Ross mentions Ray's book to Chandler??? Bet most of ya didnt because I've never seen it brought up.

Chandler's reply to Ross talking about the book was: "I just found out I could fall asleep with my eyes opened"

what really would of been funny would of been. Yeah I heard about it. Didn't that band Our Lady Peace do a record about it? Now that would be cool.

I did read the book. I have to say the first 2 chapters were hard for me cause they were all this technical stuff I couldn't quite grasp. Other then that it was intersting and scary at the same time. Scary in the sense that in the not so distance future we will be someone cyber. They just had a meeting on it awhile bakc. Ray was one of the speakers.

As for SM the CD. I think this was Raine's best work Lyrically as a whole body of work. I love this CD. Funny thing is I have been on a SM kick also. Then again this is my all time fave OLP CD along Naveed. My friend just burned me both of them mixed togehter cause I love them so much

I felt the same way as you when I read the book. At first I was struggling thinking "ok Neil, you have to remember this isn't a picture book" haha nah, but it was pretty messed up 'n technical at first. It's strange to actually put all of Ray's information into perspective though.

I'll never get enough of 'Machines.....it's definitely my fav OLP album. I'll never get enough of "Mafia" and "In Repair" until the day I die. And then when I die.....I want them to PLAY "In Repair" haha.

Me also. Mafia is one of my top 5 OLP songs. I love it with a passion. I also love In repair. that is why I am playing SM alot now.

You know what is funny, and i am surprised nobody really noticed this-or maybe they did and don't care. If you listen to the beginning of OLP live, right before All For You.the Intro. that is left over from the SM tour(actually from the CD-th ehidden track after TWF) It is the conversation-or part of- that Ray has with Molly about mosh's(mostly organic sub human or something like that. I forgot what it was an anagram for) Which if you remeber the book that was a whole chapter that was sort of edited on the CD.

I noticed that! After playing the Live CD a billion times you start to notice these things.

I bought SM book in Ottawa (along with the CD ironically since my old one was dead after it went through the washing machine....:freak:) and since I can't sleep on airplanes and everyone else I on the plane could I had a lot of time to get through the first couple of chapters. I kept wanting to wake people up and talk to them about it but I couldn't.

I still think that In Repair is one of their best songs. I love it. Its so different then any thing else they have....other then whats on that cd. Its a very powerful song. Though I am not sure I would have gotten into OLP the way I did if it wasnt for the video. That was the song that made me buy their cd but I was in a big art phase and fell in love with the video then realized what an breathtaking song it was.

As for me, I am on a Happiness kick right now though. That CD is so easy to fall out fo the loop....and then you hear it, and look around and go "Damn, this rocks".

I personally think Happiness is their best album lyrically. I love the lyrics in IAH?, Blister, Thief, OMA, Happiness & The Fish.. basically the whole album.
