Great post, egotist. I also agree with you on the point that the other guys just shared more of a love for the paycheck than Mike. But how can you fault them, it is their job. Also, they aren't filthily rich from US sales anyway. That's from their Canadian market.
However, I don't believe that Gravity is a "let's go multiplatinum in the US" record. The songs are catchy and "Somewhere Out There" was powerful and kinda cheesy, making it grounds for a huge hit, but OLP apparently still lacks something poppy enough which it doesn't look like they are fixing, and that is a good sign. I do believe that Gravity is a stripped down stepping stone for the "new direction", and I am OK with that, as long as the next album is better, and the album after that is even better.

well, I have to blatently disagree with most of what was just said.
I think they must have known that Mike was leaving in the past couple of shows and I can understand them turning to Jamie. Thats about all I agree with.
But other then that I'm not going to say anything.
I really don't want to assume anything about the band or sony or Mike, because thats just not fair.
And for the record, I am still confused as to why we are talking about this years after it happened.

Goodbye you liar,
Well you sipped from the cup but you don't own up to anything
Then you think you will inspire
Take apart your head
(and I wish I could inspire)
Take apart your demons, then you add it to the list.

It's time to move on. It's none of our business, anyway. If the band or Mike wanted us to know, they would've told us. Any guesses as to what happened are just that, guesses. It's stupid to assume and act like you "know" what happened... cos, psst... you don't. None of us do. And honestly, I don't really care. But that's just me.

With all due respect to Mike, and I'm sure if he were here he would admit this. Speaking in terms of sheer vanity, there is no way that Mike is on the same level as any of those guys (Maybe Kiedis).
Also, the acts you are talking about have all previously had tremendously successful albums in their youth. OLP have yet to achieve that market stability where their audience is comfortable to let them age. *Can't believe I'm typing this*
OLP are not a "Heritage Act" to employ a bit of broadcasting lingo.
******************
Anyway, this really has been covered ad nauseum and I agree with alot of posters here.
However, whether or not it's our business or not is really irrelevant. OLP are public figures and as such are subject to all the scrutiny that comes with that status. If they don't like it, they can start recording under a different name and alternative aliases any time they like.
I wouldn't regulate discussion based on what OLP would or wouldn't like or what they would interpret as "respectful."

we can go on acts not based on lookd. look at def leppard, bryan adams, and a ton of other acts from the 80's still around.
I don't really think age has anything to do with a record selling. there are alot of artist over the teenybooper age that sell. True alot of these people may not be top 40, but they still do well. look at the contempary adult charts. People like Micheal Bloton, Billy Joel Elton and on and on.
True OLP maynot be as *old* as some of the aboved mention aritst, but they have been around for 10+ years which in today's day and age is a miricle.
I think Mike might og got tired of the whole Rock and roll thing. Maybe he got tired of the non-stop touring and just wanted to be closer to home. We will never know. I did sense something though. Maybe cause I am older myself. After a certain age, you wiew things differently.

I am not old. In the words of BOn JOvi- I am older.
why do you always want to break my hip? That is the one thing on my body that hasn't been injured, broken, or sprained etc. I have broken my ankel 2times, injured my lower back and knees in a car accident, and due to the use of my hands(hey no perverted thoughts there buddy) have some stiffness in them.
BTW, I am only *27**
