Jet

Post by I AM ME »

I really like their current single "are you gonna be my girl", i noticed it while watching a commercial of all things. then i saw them tonite on saturday night live, WOW these guys sound amazing live! Their album has some really good tunes, although i was kinda let down that there was so many slower paced songs, i was looking foreward to an album filled with other high energy songs

anyways, anyone else like Jet?

EDIT: Upon downloading more of this album i've decided that i love it. It's awesome and just plain fun rock. It's simple and pure gold. Simple non-gravity way too!

"The white dove is gone, the one world has come down hard, so why not share the pain of our problems, when all around are wrong ways, when all around is hurt, i'll roll up in an odd shape and wait, untill the tide has turned.....with anger, i'm dead weight, i'm anchored"- IME, God Rocket (Into the Heart of Las Vegas) ^ Some say this song is about a terrorists thoughts before 911

"Pray for the sheep" Matt Good
"But it's alright, take the world and make it yours again" Matt Good

I felt it in the wind, and i saw it in the sky, i thought it was the end, i thought it was the 4th of July.

Jet rocks, if you like rock n roll, no offense to OLP, but bands like Jet and Sam Roberts are pure rock n roll, they are playing music like it should be played

check out Jet or Sam Roberts if you get the chance

"Jet makes me not want to make music."
Julian Casablancas of The Strokes

I had to post that quote it made me laugh so hard when I read it. But their single really just drives me crazy. Can't comment on the rest of the record just that damn single. Sorry I normally won't post just to rip on something but I felt with the quote I had to...

Yeah i saw that lots of people either love Jet, or consider them a Garage rock wanna be, but i consider more of a pure rock record. Hell they ripped of AC/DC, the stones, and Oasis, more then The strokes, or The Vines. Meh it's just good fun.

As for the Sam comparison, at times i can see Sam, and they seem to have more of Sam's attitude then anaything. For some reason though these songs grew on my more then sam's did.

lol it's kinda funny cause normally i'm the complex alternative music kinda guy, or guitar laden prog rock. This album is nothing like that other stuff

I'm not sure how much I like 'are you gonna be my girl' but I'm glad they're good live cos I'm going to see them next month :)
Open your eyes to nights and days, you close them up and float away
and somehow inbetween you've got to master lying to yourself
you back the cause, get out of school, you get a job, the job gets you
and somehow every day you end up serving somebody else
now if that ain't panic that you're feeling, then you damn well better start
you can drive it into that head of yours with the hammer in your heart.

And it's alriiiiiiiight now, take the world and make it yours again.

Are You Gonna Be My Girl is a really great song (you can't listen to it without dancing!) however it's being extremely overplayed.. :uh:

I liked the song the first time I heard it, but it kind of wore off for me.

They're not very original. It seems like they're kinda just an afterwash of the surge of popularity in "garage rock" like The Strokes, The Hives, The Vines, etc. But they're not really bad or anything. My suitemate has their CD and I like it okay.
don't look now, just keep watching the TV hating what's too see waiting for someone to say something that's right.

I was just watching Much and Nardwuar was talking to them about that. They said that you can't copyright a rythm. Nardwuar said he thought they got it of someone else from a long time ago (I don't remembr who)

who cares if they ripped off lust for life, it's not like iggy pop will get shafted out of some money, i mean, he's already sold his soul to the devil over that song.

anyway, it's a catchy song, i like.

I missed the SNL performance. They did a show here a few weeks ago. it was radio only.

I love that Song, but i love the CD. It reminds me of Sam Roberts. A good time fun listening rocking CD.
The station here is playing the song Cold Heart Bitch

I have been playing the Jet and the SMile Empty Soul CD's alot .they are in my work bag to listen to on the way to and from work.

I bought "Get Born" for like 7 bucks on sale cuz I dug the single, and the album rocks socks. "Rollover DJ" and "Cold Hard Bitch" friggin' rock. That album kickeths the mucho.
"When looking up there, I just felt whole, like I belonged. Like one day I too would shine my most brilliant. Sitting there also made me think about sitting through services at my little country church back home. About that never-changing congregation of the same sixty-seven people and everyone has known you since before you were born. Now, out here in the real world, everything just seemed more vivid than when I used to sit in that little pew. That pew that was now so, so far away from where I was. I feared I had somehow left God behind there, too. I feared he was somehow just sitting there, saving my seat on the fifth pew from the front row, just waiting on me to come back. I left so quickly, I worried that he may not have noticed I was gone. And, now, I’m just too far away to find. So he’s just sitting there, patiently waiting on me to come back. I closed my eyes and prayed a moment. I hoped more than anything that he could still hear me." -an excerpt from my novella, A Sea of Fallen Leaves.
