^ I second that opinion. I certainly hope whoever said that is being honest with themself, it may be a little overstated to skip over about 15 songs they've played now since SM.
And as for the comment about being dissapointed with olp if they released a song like that, I think I'd have to agree with that as well. The actual song has gotten pretty good now after a few listens, but something tells me I'd be dissapointed if olp released something like that.. no matter what they release, it has that unique-olp polish to it, whether or not you think the actual song is good.

I was the one who said that Don't Start is better than OLP's stuff since SM, and I stand by my statement.
Actually, I certainly hope that you're being honest with yourself, and not just liking OLP because it's OLP.
That's not to say that I don't like what OLP's been making (post-Gravity [and perhaps a couple of Gravity songs]), but I enjoy this style of music infinately more.

I guess it just kinda depends what style your into at the moment or just honest opinions and preferences. Don't get me wrong, i think Don't Start is incredible.
And there is no way I would like OLP just because it's OLP... and I hope nobody is like that. I really like a few tracks off of Gravity (Pretty much the second half of the record) and the stuff they've played this summer.
But I respect your statement Rob cause you have stuff to back it up.

imagine a song OLP featuring Mike Turner, haha thatd be nuts

I like the song, and I think if it was OLP I would still like it. However, even after Gravity, it doesn't sound too much like Raine's lyrical style.
I think the song itself would fit on Gravity, personally, especially if Bob Rock got his hands on it and "unproduced" it a little. But then again, it's not easy to compare, because this isn't OLP doing this song.
In all seriousness, it is not anything that is exponentially better than Gravity, although it is a good deal better than a number of songs on the record.
Still a very good song, and I love it.

so, i've listened to the song a number of times now. and i think it's good, not great, but good. it certainly has its moments: i love the drum beat that comes in a the beginning, the vocals are generally strong, though i dislike the second verse, and of course the guitar work is good. it's definately shows potential.

woah woah woah, back that up!
Gravity isn't normal? Gravity is unique? That guys voice is just as unique if not more so then Raine's on gravity. I thought Gravity sounded like several other pop-rock albums. American Hi-Fi even. Not to trash raines voice though, i believe that he'sbetter then Jay, just not on gravity. I thought the song was pretty good.

I am a little confused here, maybe cause I didn't really read all the post up to this one.
How does the Mike T song compare to OLP. I like it. I don't compare it to OLP. Just because Mike didn't want to necessarily go the harder edge way doesn't mean he would never play it or what have you. I don't see the it.
Like I said I am just glad we are hearing Mike play again. It has been years( too long)

I feel love, I feel a power. It comes to me in the darkest hour. And I want to feel it again

I dug "Don't Start", not too shabby at all. Here's hoping for an eventual album.
"When looking up there, I just felt whole, like I belonged. Like one day I too would shine my most brilliant. Sitting there also made me think about sitting through services at my little country church back home. About that never-changing congregation of the same sixty-seven people and everyone has known you since before you were born. Now, out here in the real world, everything just seemed more vivid than when I used to sit in that little pew. That pew that was now so, so far away from where I was. I feared I had somehow left God behind there, too. I feared he was somehow just sitting there, saving my seat on the fifth pew from the front row, just waiting on me to come back. I left so quickly, I worried that he may not have noticed I was gone. And, now, I’m just too far away to find. So he’s just sitting there, patiently waiting on me to come back. I closed my eyes and prayed a moment. I hoped more than anything that he could still hear me." -an excerpt from my novella, A Sea of Fallen Leaves.

This music with Jay will likely not become a larger project due to time constraints.
