Un-called for.

The fact is that Alan was making a perfect point. These ads will not make it on the air because they can spur anti-Bush settiments. We all know that most CEO's/Big wigs are right wing, so why on Earth would they want to ruin their chances at Bush getting re-elected?

I would have said the same thing Alan said, because it's true. It's not about Jews or for some strange reason you wanting to suddenly be a red neck. It's pretty simple poiltics, and for someone as bright as you claim to be it was a pretty un-called for.

What? Democratic candidates aren't already doing that?

*sniff* I smell a hippy. You sure have it all figured out.

Wow, I'm convinced. Alan and J-Neli UNITE!

And if you weren't so slow, you would have picked up on me alluring to Alan's constant preaching of how the Jews control the media.

Just out of curiosity, Corey, do you have a point? I mean, you've pointed out that you don't think Alan has a point, and then you have gone on to make some snide remarks. You've also for some reason started talking about the Jews controlling the media which is, whether Alan said it or not, irrelevant.

Anyways, this commercial was banned. What a shock, right? The people selling the time slots banned this and a commercial for PETA because they had political messages that supposedly have no right to be viewed during football. Yeah, that's a whole lot of shit.

Ever think that maybe station owners don't want to show certain commercials because they are afraid they will upset viewers? When viewers are upset they tend to stop buying your product. When noone is buying your product, you stop making money. Simple economics.

Prime examples: The Dixie Chicks and Sinead O'Connor

I'm sure there are people at the station that would love to show those commercials, but it just wouldn't be an intelligent business move.

What product are they selling? TV time? The Super Bowl? It's not like Pepsi is sponsoring these commercials or time slots here. It's just a commercial with a viewpoint that might make people "think" (even though they're awfully superficial and everything).

And if every corporation is against having offencive political messages the why are we seeing anti-bush music videos (since you love the idea of political music) or for that matter, democratic commericals.
In case you haven't noticed, people arn't buying something by watching TV. Yes, they are paying for it through cable but no one is going to ban a certain station because they played a 30 second anti-bush commerical.

Well it's quite simple:

People see commercial they don't like.
People stop watching station.
Station loses sponsors because noone is watching.
Station loses money.

Yes, and advertisers can and will pull their commercials from a station if they don't want to be associated with something the station comes to represent.

Stations don't want to be blacklisted by their money-makers.

yeah, we know that stations arn't going to air commericals that are going to give them a bad image. Which is why these were cut.

maybe its me, but I don't think that sponsors are going to drop the superbowl advertising because of what someone else said in a political commerical. No one would pull from the superbowl.

Yeah, but I see where Corey's coming from on this. They might not pull their commercial from the Super Bowl, but they might pull their commercials from the station for a while.

But honestly, I don't see what the huge problem with this commercial is. It's telling the fucking truth. Most people in America are too fucking stupid to comprehend the whole idea that Bush is screwing the world up, and if a 30 second commercial is too risque to show the less intelligent ones here that Bush really is the antichrist, then so be it.

I hate the media. I really and truly do.

amen to that

wow after all these times i spoke bad of America and Alan got pissed, i never realized that all this time he just wanted to do some critisizing too. :)

Anyway though you both make good points, and Alan's right, the fact that Corey has a point is exactly what's wrong with our world. That isn't democracy when it's equal for both parties, and democracy sure as hell doesn't work in an ignorant society.

Well, Democracy and Capitalism are two separate things. Sometimes one trumps the other. There are other arenas for political agenda and we can't fault someone for not wanting to jeopardize their business. There are a lot of jobs and a lot of money at stake.

Again, I agree with Corey on this one. The way I see it, however, is that if corporatoins pull their ads from the TV station because they had the gall to air a politcal ad that doesn't praise Bush, then those corporations are gutless. I mean, just because you advertize something doesn't mean you necessarily agree with it, it only means you wanted to collect the $1.2 million for that time slot.

So, what it comes down to is people are spineless. Democracy fails the American people yet again.

Well, I wouldn't call sponsors spineless either. They too are looking out for their own interest. Don't underestimate the power of the dollar. There have been times in history where a company will do something against popular interest and the public will boycott their product.

So here is a probable scenario:

NBC (or whoever is carrying the SuperBowl) airs a politically motivated commercial)
Patrons see commercial and are outraged
Patrons notice that Pepsi is the "Official Sponsor" of the SuperBowl
Patrons stop buying Pepsi in boycott

You see?
