Any Songs That You Prefer Steve's Version to Mike's?

Post by He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named »

Call me a blasphemer, a controversy-starter, or whatever, but:

I prefer Steve's Starseed to Mike's
I like the way they did Are You Sad? on this past tour. It's not entirely Steve's doing, I just think it sounds better.
I prefer Steve's Birdman.
I also like the way the band in general does Mafia with Steve.

Most everything else is either highly debatable or Mike's is better.

However, Steven will never, ever, ever touch Michael on my favorite OLp song, Naveed (as I sit listening to Mike's last ever performance   )

Didn't we have this thread 8 times already?
I faced death. I went in with my arms swinging. But I heard my own breath and had to face that I'm still living. I'm still flesh. I hold on to awful feelings. I'm not dead... My chest still draws breath. I hold it. I'm buoyant. There's no end.

The only thing I will say is I love Steve's Black Yamaha Guitar. Everytime he plays it, it has a great sound. i guess that is why he uses it alot.

Who I like better?. Deppsite my sig and photo. I have to say it isn't Steve's playing or Mike's playing ,but the arrangement of the songs live. I like how Naveed is done now. It seems the guitar in Superman's Dead is more noticible. Other then that it all boils down to whose style you prefer. I will tell you that on a lot of songs there really isn't any different in the song. Plus we have no idea what Mike sounds like on any song past Spiriutal Machine. Jamie played Guitar on Gravity(Steve plays on 3 tracks)

I will say that the rest of the band has gotten better live over the years. They were going that way before Mike left. If you listen to shows from the Happiness era then listen to something live from the Spiritual Machine Era, you can hear how much tighter they became as a live band.

I feel love, I feel a power. It comes to me in the darkest hour. And I want to feel it again

Starseed, In Repair, Are You Sad, Mafia. Basically the same as everyone else.
Some of you probably think I left. But was I ever here to start?

They aren't too badly priced either are they? only a little over $300 if i recall.

How do you like the guitar...other than it's the same one that Steve plays, I guess compared to other guitars... I've also read that it's a primarly d-tune type of guitar, which means it can read lower tones and keeps the strings at the right tension better than other guitars do you find this true?

You can get two versions of it. One dropped, one not. Steve uses the one that isn't dropped. One's the "AES820" the other (drop 6) is "AES820D6".

I bought mine for $500 US, so thats about $700 Canadian. Its a fair price.

I love this guitar dude. It stacks up fairly well when compared to a Les Paul or Strat. It has a really good feel when I am playing it and its sounds wonderfull. Comfortable and highly playable.

I don't think it's fair to compare Mike's album version's to Steve's live versions, so I've been watching some older recordings.

Honestly, I haven't found a song that I like Steve's version(s) better. I mean, Steve's a great guitarist, but he just doesn't stack up in my mind. Steve's got a fast hard style that sounds great, but Mike's style was so absolutely PERFECTED. Every little thing was exactly on. The man is a fucking guitar god.
