university applications (again)

Post by starseed_10 »

can't find the old ones soooo..... where's everyone applying to?

i'm hitting up Western, Queens, Windsor, possibly OIT and Waterloo.

but i have one question... I've heard some schools only consider you if you list them as your first choice for acceptance. Western and Queens being two of them. do you guys know anything about this?

All schools claim it doesn't matter how you rank them, but there have been rumours that major schools (Toronto, Queens, Western) may not look at you. Personally I think that if you have the marks you'll get in anywhere. It's plain and simple.

Also, rank Windsor last on that list... you'll get in if you have 60's (I've never heard of anyone getting turned down by them).

Another piece of advice that I posted in the other thread is look at some of the smaller schools as well. I'm at Trent and in my opinion it's amazing. They may not have the reputation but you'll probably get a better education thanks to class sizes and the availability of profs/TA's to help with any problems. It's sort of like a little secret that most people don't pick up on, but I've yet to hear anyone here say anything negative about Trent.

Really unless you have a high 80's average (with extra-curriculars if you're borderline) I would probably say don't apply to Queens. It's almost a waste of a slot. You don't have to listen to me but from what I've experienced over the past year and a half thats just what I think (and many councillors and such as well)

Anyways good luck. Hopefully it goes well!

Queen's does judge by ranking. Make sure they're number 1 or 2 on your list (depending on whether you prefer Queen's or Windsor).

mid-80's average, and I filled up my extra-curricular sheet that Queens had me fill out and still didn't get in to their psych program, and I ranked them first (even though they weren't my first choice).

Jim, i've actually looked into trent a bit, but they dont have an engineering program, and if i go with general science i think i'll stick with western. If i take Physics it'll be at windsor.

so anyway... my marks should be good enough to get into queens right now (93-ish with english, physics, bio, and chemistry this semester) but i'm putting Western as my first choice, so i'm still a little worried.

I'm definitely putting windsor last.

Ryerson is a really good school especially for certain programs but it’s often underrated.

Jim, Trent is my back-up. I went for the tour there, and it seemed really nice, except for one thing. The tour didn't take us into the dorms. So, what are they like?

Almost 85% of the rooms are singles which is nice. We have a new dorm being finished this summer and its sposed to have 1 bathroom for every 3 people which is pretty good. Food is actually really good if you're on the flex dollar plan (meaning you get 2200$ for the entire year)

There's a lot of opportunity to get involved in your res and meet new people. If I can get a digital camera I'll show you some pictures of my room. They're bigger than the rooms at Queens.

Umm it's all carpeted, you get a twin sized bed, a desk, a large shelf, little table, a closet and some rooms come with a dresser, otherwise you have plenty of shelf space within the closet for your clothes, as well as a place to hang them up.

It's just the order you put them in your application. If don't put Queen's as number 1, or 2 at the most, they won't even bother looking at your application.

If I have about an 87-92 average, will I probably get accepted at most major universities?

And would it matter that I don't have a science or math 12, but I do have french immersion?
