Absent Minded Guitarist wrote:So what kinda strings do you mates use?

For my electric, I use D'Addario XL, Nickel Wound, Light Gauge.

For my acoustic, I forget the exact names, but it's essentially the acoustic version of those strings.

Monday January 19, 2004 (or was it Thursday February 19?)
Kingston, Ontario - Coffee House - Bayridge Secondary School
1059 Taylor Kidd Blvd
Performers: Robert Marshall, a bunch of others

I just have to decide whether I'm going to do acoustic or electric. The guy organizing it actually came up to me and said "Are you doing anything on the 19th? I heard you play and sing in class (on Brian's guitar) and you've got a great singing voice. You want to do the coffee house?" Me: "YES!"

He said it doesn't matter which I choose (electric or acoustic). I might go acoustic, because it's better for solo. But I'd like to do electric, too.

I'll ask him how long I can be up there, and maybe I'll do both. 8-)

My only beef is that the 19th is the first day of exam week. I have an exam the afternoon before, and the afternoon of the next day. Should be fine, though.

Oh! And my friend (who plays guitar) keeps asking me if I want to start a band. There's two problems I have as of yet, though. One is that I don't know how good he is. Hopefully he's a really good lead guitarist. Then, if I work on my voice, I can be vocals/rythem. The other problem is that I'm not too sure about our musical tastes. I'm sure we'd find some common ground somewhere...

New Songs I've Learned:

Nirvana - Heartshaped Box
Blur - Song 2
OLP - Innocent
Our Time is Fading
Denied
Automatic Flowers

OTF and Song 2 are definitely the most fun to play

I'm learning to play Jeremy by Pearl Jam. It's easy and it sounds cool. That's my kind of song!

Yay. Guitar lessons start again today.

Yeah, I'm still waiting for Matt (or someone else) to find some space to upload it somewhere.

I've been trying to record a cover of IAH, too. I should have time soon.

Yeah, but I've been told a few times lately that I have a good singing voice, so I'm thinking the rythem-vocal thing might be good.

I enjoy playing lead, too though.

I don't see this band happening, anyways. He's had another "band" in the past, but they broke up because they couldn't find a drummer.

Guitar Shredding Robbo

Shredding
Slang term for a really fast style of guitar playing, usually associated with heavy metal. "Speed metal" is another term used as well.

I am currently trying to master the guitar solo in the legendary Van Halen song, Eruption. Then I guess I could say I'm a shredder (and no.. I don't wear a metal suit like in the TMNT.. :P) Wish me luck, cuz it's fast and hard. :) but it'll be fun.

Just this morning I started trying to learn Imagine. I hope to be able to play and sing it by Feb 19th. It's a fairly simple song, I just have to get the verse down pat, and be able to do the verse while singing. Oh, and I have to memorize the lyrics (I've got it all memorized except for the last verse).
