Okay, I'll start it off...
I find it interesting that since people have accepted Chantal as a (albeit impartial) part of OLP, everyone was okay with him collaberating with her, but since Avril (whose music is obviously less poppy) was given judgement by everyone separate from OLP, it's horrible that Raine might do something with her.

People need to realize this doesn't affect our lady peace .. it's raine, doing a side project, helping out a fellow canadian musician by helping her produce some songs for her record. So going so far as to say our lady peace would lose credability in your eyes is just silly .. this is raine maida, producing. The reason everyone is freaking out is because people don't like the artist he's helping. That's very judgemental and considering you don't even have to listen to the finished work (avril's next cd) it really doesn't affect our lady peace fans at all.
Go Raine for finally getting into the production aspects.

okay... i totally agree with you both 100%
However, in defence of everyone else... originally it was thought he was singing with her. I think thats why a majority of the people were like wtf at first... even i was like wtf... but i did it more in the way of wondering how it would turn out... two different styles and all...
but to bash the raine for producing is a whole diff thing. thats just not fair.

OK, in the defense of the people like me that don't like this, I will speak.
Actually, I don't have to. In the previous thread, Megan stated it perfectly. For a lot of us here, OLP is our favorite band, and Avril is common street trash. You know, a Britney Spears with real tits and Converse shoes. The prospect of those two working together on a song is bothersome, because someone that is held in such high regard in our eyes working with the antithesis of good music is rather jarring.
And now from my perspective. I have very little respect for Raine anymore. He's done too much to conform himself into the Nickelback cookie cutter image, and it hurts. The past 14 songs I've heard from OLP just hurts. It's nothing like the old stuff, which is good, because they're trying to expand their tastes, but everything has taken a negative turn. It is painful to listen to. They're not trying to be mind expanding anymore, but rather popular, and it sucks. If you can get popular with something that sounds like there's some effort in the lyrics, or, dare I say, intelligent, then by all means, you can be Michael Jackson in the 1980s, but if you make yourself into something lesser than what you were, then you suck.
I desperately want OLP to do something amazing, or good, with the next album. I, however, view the joining of Avril and Raine in the recording studio as the last step into OLP being just another wannabe Nickelback, and that sucks. If this is the case, and this is what he wants, then I won't listen to his music anymore. That's just that.

I faced death. I went in with my arms swinging. But I heard my own breath and had to face that I'm still living. I'm still flesh. I hold on to awful feelings. I'm not dead... My chest still draws breath. I hold it. I'm buoyant. There's no end.

Well said Alan, however, Raine does not represent Our Lady Peace as a whole (as much as he would like to). He is only 1/4 of the band. Just because Raine is doing side projects, that doesn't mean I'm gonna stop listening to what Steve, Jer, and Duncan have to offer. I respect your opinion, but I disagree. That's ok right?

Exactly. Raine's just having some fun on the side (don't tell Chantal. yowza). I really fail to see how this affects OLP. They're still going to be making songs like WTSOYF and No Warning (whether that's a good thing or bad, I will leave up to you), regardless of what Raine should decide to do with his own time.
So Raine is helping Avril and her band produce some songs......big whoopie. I bet once the new album is done, if the liner notes clearly states which songs Raine helps with, you all will probably be fans for the song(s) just for that reason.
I see no big deal in this........nor do I generally.
