Sound to Video sucks on the DVD

Post by Mark Loj »

Has anyone noticed that Raine's vocals don't match up at all on alot of the songs. IF you watch Somewhere Out There, the video is like one second ahead of the music. And you can see alot of that also with Jeremy's drum pattern not matching up at all with the audio. Not really a big deal i guess. But its kinda weird they wouldn't notice that when making the DVD

dvd players do that all the time... you have to pause it sometimes and then press play again...

Actually u can tell that it's not the DVD Player, it was the way they edited it. Took clips from like Calgary's show and used the audio from Edmonton or something. It can be really tough to match up because he won't sing it live the exact same way every time, but it may have been the best camera shot they had, so they tried to make it work.

I had the same problem with my Right Behind You music vid. As you might notice, the drums and the vocals don't always match up to the movements they make on stage.

Don't worry. It's only with a few songs. The worst one is In Repair. It's only a second (if that) off, but it's easy to notice.

is it the same on every dvd? or does it just depend on your dvd player?

In SWOT you can see the Oilers logo on the celing, but the audio is the same as on the CD, where the SWOT audio was recorded in Montreal.......(i hope that makes sense)
I guess considering what they had to work with, they wanted the best video and the best audio, and they weren't always the same show

Hehehe.

Man, when they made this DVD, Sony shouldnt have spliced the footage together. Meaning, for example, notice Raines geetar in "Are You Sad" and Raines Mic in "Starseed"

They shoulda choose the best version of each song and then put it on the disc.

Exactly. Who cares if the video isn't the best footage, or if the audio isn't the best audio. Just pick one of each song and go with it.

That is what I was thinking. Isn't half the reason they did this to show that they didn't want that perfect sound? and that mistakes are part of a live show?

And I still stand by my word that if they made a DVD of just their music videos, maybe a live performance or two, and maybe some extra special stuff like all of the versions of Superman's Dead or the alternate Life video, and we'd all have nothing to complain about. Live DVD performances leave too much for people to mess around with to make it "perfect," whereas music videos are what they are. Anyways, I'd love to wake up every morning to watch In Repair and Hope.
I faced death. I went in with my arms swinging. But I heard my own breath and had to face that I'm still living. I'm still flesh. I hold on to awful feelings. I'm not dead... My chest still draws breath. I hold it. I'm buoyant. There's no end.

The DVD could have been great, if Sony wasn't such a shitty company.

Take, for example, the Coldplay DVD released on the same day. It has no flaws. It's not out of synch. Hell, they even did some colouring changes for some visual affect (black and white for a slower song, for example).

This DVD was just a half-assed money grab by Sony.

Guys. try changing your audio to the second option.

I changed it from the first to the second and everything's fine, In Repair is perfect.

I love how Raine's all about "inevitable mistakes in the music" now, and you look at the DVD which they tried to make as perfect as possible with editing and shit.

The Mic problem in Starseed really ruins it. Its like you're not even watching a live video.
