Five majors become four?

Post by Long Jonny »

Thought you may find this interesting as it involves OLP's label

From Chartattack.com:

Are the five major labels about to become four? If Bertelsmann AG (BMG) and the Sony Corp. have their way, the answer is yes. The two companies have announced plans to merge, which will make them the world’s second biggest record label, just behind Vivendi Universal.

The intended deal, which will affect artists including Our Lady Peace, Sloan, The Strokes and thousands more, was announced on Thursday. The new company would only cover BMG and Sony’s music labels, things like publishing, distribution and manufacturing would not be included. The deal needs the approval of European and American regulators before it can become official.

thoughts?
personally, i think it'll be a very smart move.

I thought it was 5 to 3... Emi-Warner, Sony-BMG, and Universal left alone...?

But, I honestly don't really know what it means, though, so I have no opinion... for now, at least.

That could mean less publicity since they have more talent.
which is not good.

Thats true. And that would be exellent.
I just hope they dont try to change the way things are run for all the bands in the merge. That wouldn't be fair.

eh.....I don't see this being any sorta big deal. Media companies do this sorta crap and I don't really notice anything.
