I don't doubt for a second that there is a lot of progress going on in Iraq, but there is obviously still some animosity towards the Americans since these car bombings, etc. are still happenning. And although I believe it is only a small group of people who are conducting these attacks, I have a hunch that they (the attacks that is) would subside considerably if the US got out of there and were replaced by the UN.
because, in my opinion for all that it's worth, most of the violence going on in Iraq is occuring because a small group has a great deal of animosity towards the Americans specifically. So then if we remove US forces, the violence may stop. However, I could be wrong. It could be that this small group of people feels the same animosity towards any outsiders or perhaps anyone whom they consider to be imposing western values upon them, which could include the UN. However, considering the history between Iraq and the US, it seems more likely that Iraqis would dislike the US more than they dislike the UN.

LOL yeah because the terrorist are differentiating who they are attacking. Does the attack on the UN headquarters ring a bell?? The Red Cross maybe?? Do you realize that these car bombs, etc have killed far more Iraqi's than Americans? THEY DON'T CARE IF ITS AMERICANS OR MEMBERS OF THE UN!!! When will the rest of you get it through your head. They do not care! If they did then PLEASE explain to me why they attacked the UN and Red Cross. Two organizations that stand for peace and humanity (supposedly). SOMEONE PLEASE ANSWER THIS!! Alex, Doug care to take a stab at it? These terrorist's and Saddam supporters don't want democracy because there is no place for their despotic ilk in democracy!! These people are taking advantage of all the nay sayers out there. You are the kind of people they like.....ones they can walk all over and wield power over, because you are too spineless to stand up for yourselves. They are loving every negative comment that comes from the media, American citizens, etc because that to them means they are winning. I'm just glad we have a president that will put his career on the line for the good of this country and the world. Years down the road we will look back on GW and be glad he didn't back out of Iraq. People also complain that he is too focused on that rather than here at home. Well a report just came out today that the US economy rose 7.6% in ONE quarter. The largest jump in 19 years!!

Actually in a way I wish the UN would go in there just to prove that it would be NO different. However in order for that to happen the US would have to back out and look like cowards which cannot happen. I think its obvious without that though. They attacked the UN already and look what happened. They up and ran out like they have throughout history. The UN is more of a social group for pacifist European nations than an international protector.
I agree with you that it would be hard for the US to back out now. Perhaps what would be best is US-UN combined intervention in Iraq. The UN has kind of seemed a little useless over the course of history, but I think that's all the more reason why the US should should push for more UN involvement. I think if the UN doesn't show itself to be the major peace-making mechanism in the world right now, It will be a major failure for them. And from there, who knows, the UN could end up like the League of Nations, and we all know what could happen from there.
a) i have never said that replacing one invading opressor (usa) with another (un) will change sweet fuck all.
b) the war in iraq is still wrong.
c) the terrorists are the americans. they're terrorizing the iraqi's just as bad as the militants.
d) there is unrest in iraq, because of the war. not every iraqi is smiling and waving at yankee helicopters. in fact, i still imagine that most aren't.

The US wanted the UN to come in but the UN has refused unless it gets total control over decision making. The US has seen the UN screw up too many times to allow that to happen so therefore the UN won't be comming in to help, in fact as I mentioned their small presence pulled out this week. Tail between their legs as usual.
It can't be denied that technically the American's commited an international crime, whether it be for good reasons or bad they still invaded a foreign country without international permission. Basically THEY are the ones that made the UN useless. By proving that no one has to listen to the UN. Then they come crawling back to the UN asking for help. In layman's terms the UN was basically 'What The Fuck!?!?" I'd also like to mention that the Saudi's were the ones that had a role in the American attack, but invading Saudi Arabia would cause the collapse of the american economy. So that's not going to happen. Also whether you agree with the war or not, lets all agree that the american government hasn't been doing this for selfless charitable reasons. What about NC? Nigeria? and how many other suffering countries. Through this all the American Media has MORE then been a little biased towards the american side, in fact to the point where CNN is a running joke internationally.
Is no one disturbed that most american's believe Saddam was behind 911?

How many other nations in the UN have done just that or have committed crimes? The UN has made itself useless. Its been useless since BEFORE Kosovo where it undoubtedly proved it was useless. It took NATO to "commit an international crime" and SAVE thousands or even millions of muslims, because the UN would not act. WHY DID THEY NOT FEEL IT NECESSARY TO SAVE THOSE PEOPLE???? So tell me again how its the US's fault that the UN is useless?? Give me a few examples of great successes that the UN is responsible for in the past 15 years and I'll give you about 50 that they have either abandoned or ignored. If the world was left to the UN we would be in deep, deep, trouble.
they basically proved that anyone can do anything they want with no consequences. And Venom, i assume your not disgusted by the manipuation of the american public? Being such a patriot, i would have thought you would take offence to your fellow citizens being mislead and grossly misinformed

The intro is in Dutch, but the interview is English, just ignore the subtitles. Bob Simon is a CBS correspondent, who was held captive during the first Gulf War and believes the second one is going to end badly. Larry King wanted to have him on his show too, but CNN forbid that because Simon is too critical.

Clumsy you are right the UN won't do anything about what the US did. Thats one reason its ineffective, the second reason is that it didn't do something about Saddam when it should have. The UN was put in place to combat people like Saddam. They have had YEARS to do it and failed. The US had to act. The US was the major founder of the UN and has realized its not doing what it was put in place to do. Sept 11th has changed the world. It is now necessary to act first instead of allowing rouge states and radical groups to grow until it is too late.
