No one forced Raine to dumb down his lyrics. Rock probably tapped him on the shoulder and said, "Hey, if you really want to boost them there album sales, don't make the songs so complex." Now it was the band's decision to make Jeremy into a drum machine, take every single run away from Duncan, and for Raine to quit using his falsetto and write stupid lyrics. Not Bob Rock's fault. They didn't dress Bob Rock up like Hitler, put a furnace in the studio, and have Rock threaten them with incineration unless they did things his way. This is the exact reason I gave up on OLP. They chose to make this music, and they made it poorly.
I faced death. I went in with my arms swinging. But I heard my own breath and had to face that I'm still living. I'm still flesh. I hold on to awful feelings. I'm not dead... My chest still draws breath. I hold it. I'm buoyant. There's no end.

Alan's right. It's not like Rock was standing there in a tight leather outfit with a whip in his hand...

This is true.

But, if they didn't choose Rock, their lyrics probably wouldn't be this bad.

Two things.

1. Nikki, shut up. Look on the previous page, someone brought up a statement, I responded. If you can't handle it, don't go in this thread. There's a shocking idea.

2. We don't know what would have happened with OLP if they didn't go with someone else. This record could have come out with Arnold Lanni for all we know. It's really all about the band and their decision to make certain music. If Raine wrote these songs, he obviously would have had them on the record, even if Jesus was producing the album. That's just how it is.

Since this is the BOB ROCK Thread, I am putting this here. I can't wait to hear the next Tea Party CD. Bob Rock is currently working with the Tea Party in the studio. That may be why OLP aren't in Hawaii yet. For those who don't know, The Tea Pary are a very popular Canadian Rock Band. They haven't really had any hits in the USA, although there are records released here. I can't wait to see the Backlas on them. I am hoping the CD sells so I can see them. It has been way too long since they played where I live(and that was a showcase years ago)

I don't have aproblem with Bob Rock. Alot of people don't know he wa sin a band before all of this. They were quit successful. he is quit successful. you also have to admit that OLP haven't relaly goteen any media attention down here since CLUMSY-with Gravity (if only for a brif time) they were on the charts, video tv and radio. I think it was great for them to get th eexposure.

You all blamed BOB for Gravity. I can tell you from talking to the band over the course of the year, they were very happy with Gravity and the newer songs. I may not like everything they do, but I still support them. As long as they are happy and I can see them perform is all that matters to me.

I feel love, I feel a power. It comes to me in the darkest hour. And I want to feel it again

Alan, that sigh wasn't at you, it was at this thread being brought back to life, and listening to everyone beat a dead horse. You really need to stop taking everything so personally.

Oh, and I'd just like to add that I have no problem with you... so why do you seem to have one with me? :freak:

The band has to be happy with every slbum they just come out with, it has to be the best album theyve done yet, they have to be optimistic in front of the camera, they cant be like "this album isnt good" and expect it to sell....i mean after the came out with spiritual machines they said they over did happiness, and after they did gravoty they said they over did spiritual machines and it was to out there, but when they first came out, it was the best cd theyve ever done.

Since this is about Bob Rock I have to say that what ever he did to meticallia was far worse then what he did to OLP. Though I am not a huge metallica fan, I heard a couple of songs off St. Anger and literally cringed until I found the CD player that it was being played on and turned it off. It was the saddest pile of crap I have ever heard, and like I said I find most metallica good.

My theory is since he is (or was...not sure) in Hawii, he is now cursed.

There is some Voodoo tribe that curses everything he comes in contact with.

...or maybe he is just way past his prime. One of the two.

Bob Rock is WAY better than Arnold Lanni... and St. Anger ROCKED.

"When looking up there, I just felt whole, like I belonged. Like one day I too would shine my most brilliant. Sitting there also made me think about sitting through services at my little country church back home. About that never-changing congregation of the same sixty-seven people and everyone has known you since before you were born. Now, out here in the real world, everything just seemed more vivid than when I used to sit in that little pew. That pew that was now so, so far away from where I was. I feared I had somehow left God behind there, too. I feared he was somehow just sitting there, saving my seat on the fifth pew from the front row, just waiting on me to come back. I left so quickly, I worried that he may not have noticed I was gone. And, now, I’m just too far away to find. So he’s just sitting there, patiently waiting on me to come back. I closed my eyes and prayed a moment. I hoped more than anything that he could still hear me." -an excerpt from my novella, A Sea of Fallen Leaves.
