i too saw "School of Rock" on openeing weekend. By far, one of the funniest movies I've seen in a looooong time.
"When looking up there, I just felt whole, like I belonged. Like one day I too would shine my most brilliant. Sitting there also made me think about sitting through services at my little country church back home. About that never-changing congregation of the same sixty-seven people and everyone has known you since before you were born. Now, out here in the real world, everything just seemed more vivid than when I used to sit in that little pew. That pew that was now so, so far away from where I was. I feared I had somehow left God behind there, too. I feared he was somehow just sitting there, saving my seat on the fifth pew from the front row, just waiting on me to come back. I left so quickly, I worried that he may not have noticed I was gone. And, now, I’m just too far away to find. So he’s just sitting there, patiently waiting on me to come back. I closed my eyes and prayed a moment. I hoped more than anything that he could still hear me." -an excerpt from my novella, A Sea of Fallen Leaves.

School of Rock = Dead Poet's Society - intelligence + stupidity (in the name of Jack Black)

Therefore, I will not be watching it.

it was seriously awesome. dont assume it will suck cause JB is in it.

I noticed how clean it was too... i thought that was really cool, it's so rare to see a clean comedy movie lately.

That's because it's a kid's movie.

it's not though... i dont think it was geared just towards a young audience. There was so much talk about Led Zeplin, jimmy hendrix, the sex pistols, etc. and a lot of the humor was good for an older audience

They put that stuff in so that our generation (and the people slightly older than us) can stand to watch it with the youngins. For example, a kid wouldn't get that Jack Black is wearing Angus' outfit. They'd think it's funny because he looks like a jackass in those shorts, and because he looks like a jackass when he's "rocking out".

Well, I can understand Robbo's apprehension of seeing the movie, because Jack Black has made some pretty crappy moves as of late. I mean, did any of you see Orange County? God, all the funny parts of the movie were shown in the fucking commercials for the movie. Don't get me started on Shallow Hal. Sure, it had its moments and all, but it was sub par, to say the least.
I faced death. I went in with my arms swinging. But I heard my own breath and had to face that I'm still living. I'm still flesh. I hold on to awful feelings. I'm not dead... My chest still draws breath. I hold it. I'm buoyant. There's no end.

I'd be less apprehensive if a few things were different:

1. If 90% of the cast wasn't 10 years old.
2. If it wasn't a direct ripoff ("remake") of the storyline used in other movies and books, such as Dead Poet's Society.
3. If it wasn't chocked full of clichés (ie, Black wearing Angus' outfit).
4. If Jack Black wasn't in it.

Basically, if everything about the movie was the changed, I might like it.

Saying it was ripped exactly from dead poet's society is a lie. Sure it has the same type of idea, but it was not executed in the same fashion whatsoever.

That's why I didn't specifically say it was a ripoff of DPS, just the exact same story line that's been used countless times before. This is just the kid's movie version.

I just don't see the harm in it. If it's a movie that people can go see and enjoy, why the negativity rob? You're usually so positive!
Don't ask questions, just accept it.

Yeah Robbo, lighten up man :wtf:

Dead Poets' wasn't the first movie to have that general idea, nor was it the last.

It's not really a kid's movie. I mean, they could watch it and enjoy it, but there were some young kids sitting next to me in the theater and they didn't get half the jokes.
