OLP 16th... meh

Post by Long Jonny »

ok... i know thier have been alot of great canadian bands over the past 20 years, but for muchmusic to place them as 16th on the top 20 of the past 20 years, just doesn't seem right... I really believe that they should have been higher... they've been around for 10 years, have a solid fan base here, the u.s. and parts of europe... are consistant, are workaholics, are good to thier fans... etc. Even if you don't like thier last record, you gotta admit, shoulda been higher on the list...

I really disagree, not putting any of the other bands down or anything, cuz there really have been some solid canadian bands over the past 20 years, but olp to be 16th, i just dunno...

anyone with me?

ya who were ahead of them, because as good as OLP is, Canada has produced many good bands in the last 20 years

My God, OLP practically blew away the Canadian music scene with both Naveed. With Clumsy they completely and utterly filled it with their presence. Although of course their next couple of albums were more of a hit with the fans, my god, in now way in hell should they be 16th. Mind telling us who got the first couple of places?

Good God Cass!!. I hope you're wrong about that but if much music is going by popularity then Avril and Nucklesack are probably high on the list

I guess it's somewhat understandable that olp got 16th. I thought it was just a list of bands, which would make 16th rediculous, but looking at any type of artist it's a bit more justifiable.

i have two complaints though.

a) theres too many simple female vocalists up there... the ballance isnt very good, and a lot of them might not deserve to be so high.

b) avril, nelly furtado, and nickleback all have just 1 cd that has made it big... olp has 5. i dont even care so much that olp is at #16, but the fact that avril lavigne (who wouldnt be known to exsist save for two pop songs) is up so high is just sickening. also Clumsy probably did wayyy more for the music scene than silver side up ever did for nickleback.

a few of the artists up there I haven't even heard of... so i wont comment on them, and a few are really deserving (Alanis Morisette, Trajically hip, sarah M.) but this list all in all is horribly compiled

OLP definitely should have been higher. Some of the artists ahead of them deserve to be there, but not all. I mean, Shania and Celine Dion are probably the biggest stars to come out of Canada (shudder), and the Hip are the first thing people think of when they think Canadian rock. But, I agree, Nickleback, Avril, Nelly Furtado have only one hit record, compared to the musical legacy of OLP. Plus they're ahead of Neil Young. Crazy :wtf:

In a bizzar sense of justification, this was Much MORE Music.
I dont know if that changes anything but they play Celien Dion alot. And that scares me.

that's just crazy.

the MM folks are doing the crack.
"When looking up there, I just felt whole, like I belonged. Like one day I too would shine my most brilliant. Sitting there also made me think about sitting through services at my little country church back home. About that never-changing congregation of the same sixty-seven people and everyone has known you since before you were born. Now, out here in the real world, everything just seemed more vivid than when I used to sit in that little pew. That pew that was now so, so far away from where I was. I feared I had somehow left God behind there, too. I feared he was somehow just sitting there, saving my seat on the fifth pew from the front row, just waiting on me to come back. I left so quickly, I worried that he may not have noticed I was gone. And, now, I’m just too far away to find. So he’s just sitting there, patiently waiting on me to come back. I closed my eyes and prayed a moment. I hoped more than anything that he could still hear me." -an excerpt from my novella, A Sea of Fallen Leaves.
