4am single

Post by evanw60 »

this is the tracklisting of the 4am single according to olp.cc:
4am
01. 4am Radio Edit
02. 4am
03. Callout 1
04. Callout 2
(Jan 12/98)

I'm just wondering what Callout 1 and 2 are, if anyone knows?
This is my story both humble and true,
Take it to pieces and mend it with glue.

it's a shout out to my homies. 8-)

honestly, i got no clue.
"When looking up there, I just felt whole, like I belonged. Like one day I too would shine my most brilliant. Sitting there also made me think about sitting through services at my little country church back home. About that never-changing congregation of the same sixty-seven people and everyone has known you since before you were born. Now, out here in the real world, everything just seemed more vivid than when I used to sit in that little pew. That pew that was now so, so far away from where I was. I feared I had somehow left God behind there, too. I feared he was somehow just sitting there, saving my seat on the fifth pew from the front row, just waiting on me to come back. I left so quickly, I worried that he may not have noticed I was gone. And, now, I’m just too far away to find. So he’s just sitting there, patiently waiting on me to come back. I closed my eyes and prayed a moment. I hoped more than anything that he could still hear me." -an excerpt from my novella, A Sea of Fallen Leaves.

I think it's when the band promotes a radiostation. Something like, "Hey, this is Raine and Mike from the band Our Lady Peace, and you're listening to 4AM" or something along those lines.
I faced death. I went in with my arms swinging. But I heard my own breath and had to face that I'm still living. I'm still flesh. I hold on to awful feelings. I'm not dead... My chest still draws breath. I hold it. I'm buoyant. There's no end.

If that's right, why the hell would they put that on a single?

Well, you have to understand there has to be stuff on cd singles to get people to want to buy it. The radio and album version wouldn't be enough. This was also before it was popular to put cd-roms on singles, so this was probably just something to catch the eye of potential buyers.

I think they cut out a majority of the guitar solo in the radio edit, but I haven't heard the song on the radio in over a year, so I'm not sure.

I never understood radio edits. Unless it's a super-long song, I don't see the point.

A callout is like a clip of a part of the song, like what they put in commercials. (in this case probably part of the chorus or something)

Well, in an attempt to shove as much "new" music down your throats, songs aren't supposed to be over 3 minutes long, or else they're subject to getting shortened. Hell, the radio shortened Alkaline Trio's "Stupid Kid" and that was a 2:20 long song to begin with. I suppose they feel that guitar solos are useless and wreck ratings or something, so they go bye bye.

That's stupid though. Guitar solos own. Stupid radio stations.

the dumb thing is most great songs are over 3 mins, hell most SONGS are over 3 mins, some of the truly great ones are WAY over 3 mins
"How can we justify spending so much on destruction and so little on life?" Matthew Good

"The white dove is gone, the one world has come down hard, so why not share the pain of our problems, when all around are wrong ways, when all around is hurt, i'll roll up in an odd shape and wait, untill the tide has turned.....with anger, i'm dead weight, i'm anchored"- IME, God Rocket (Into the Heart of Las Vegas) ^ Some say this song is about a terrorists thoughts before 911

"Pray for the sheep" Matt Good
"But it's alright, take the world and make it yours again" Matt Good

I felt it in the wind, and i saw it in the sky, i thought it was the end, i thought it was the 4th of July.

"Hold on, hold on children, your mother and father are leaving, hold on, hold on children your best freind's parents are leaving, leaving,.......*AHHH*! " - Death From Above - Black History Month

I agree.

The album version of 4am is 4:17 long, and the radio edit is 3:36... I'm guessing the guitar solo was cut short, too... but I don't feel like listening to both to figure it out.

And, here are the "callouts" from the 4am single (be prepared to be disapointed and unimpressed ):

It is pieces of the song. I forgot cause i haven't listen to it in awile. I think one is just the beginning part of the song, the other one is a big more. I will listen to it tonight and get back to you. It is just more or less the intro to the song.

hope that helps, but like I said I will listen to it tonight and tell you exactly what part of the song it is. I think it is also the if I don't make it known part just repeated a few times.

edit-I see Nikki put them up for you.

I feel love, I feel a power. It comes to me in the darkest hour. And I want to feel it again

It's a radio single, though... they're just for radio stations to stick wherever.
