Joey wrote:Old School = Mike (intelligent guy but who I found boring to watch and boring to listen too, lacked energy and didn't seem to fit in with the rest of the band)
New OLP = Steve (who I find amazing to watch, adds so much more power and energy to the band and just brings so much to the band that was lacking before .. which wasn't obviously lacking until you actually see him play and interact, and of course the orgasmic solo's)
Point? Meh, don't have one ... since I don't understand the point of this thread
So...old skool...or stealing harvard?
Don't ask questions, just accept it.

I never said I didn't like Steve. I wanted to see how you guys would react and most of you did what I expected.
For all that say "Oooh, Steve's a guitar god. Mike was boring...etc.,etc.", did you even get a chance to see Mike Turner play live or even meet the guy? Or, are you a fan from the Gravity days who's just picking up on the OLP now?
I can honestly say, I might not have been on this particular board but I've definitely been in the OLP world for a while so don't simply pass me off as a n00b.
I can also say, there was no great purpose to this thread other than to see what type of community this is.

Not that it matters how long anyone has been a fan, but I've been a fan since the Naveed days, so from the beginning. I had the opportunity to see Mike 3 times, and Steve 4 times and there is no comparison. I found Mike boring and uninterested to watch .. no I haven't had the opportunity to talk to Mike but I wasn't using that as a way to compare them. Mike was very intelligent as gathered from interviews and very friendly with his friends ... but I've met Steve briefly and he's incredibly sweet and friendly too. I was comparing their guitar abilities, and I feel from seeing them both perform, that I personally prefer Steve. I'm not saying Mike wasn't a good guitar player, he was .. I just think Steve brings a lot more energy and the atmosphere on stage doesn't seem so "tense" like it did with Mike.

I do agree that Steve has a lot of stage prescence and energy.
But, do remember that Mike wrote a lot of the guitar lines that we've all fallen in love with...
I think to compare them would be dumb but to deny that there's been a change in OLP's style and that they as a band continue to change would be ignorant.

Sure Mike wrote some of the guitar lines .. but Steve has taken them and made them his own now .. not to mention the solo's that are incredible.
Basically it's silly to keep comparing them .. Mike is in the past now, yes he was great and yes he played guitar well but he's gone .. it's time to move on and embrace the power that is Steve.

I have been an OLP fan for years. Been seeing them play for years. I have seen them play shows with Mike, I have seen them play shows with Steve. I have met and spoken with Mike, I have met and spoken with Steve. I think it is a matter of preference. I happen to like Steve's stlye of guitar playing more then I did Mike cause Steve plays in the same VAIN as other guitarist I love. It doesn't mean I like him better or dislike Mike. They are two totaly different players and I have had many years of joy from both of them. I think Mike added alot to the early development of OLP and Steve will bring them into the future. One is not better then the other. Both have brought alot to the band and I respect/appreciate both of them

I feel love, I feel a power. It comes to me in the darkest hour. And I want to feel it again
