2 more good anti-american foreign affairs articles....

BBC-French President Jacques Chirac and German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder have said a US draft resolution seeking greater international help in Iraq does not go far enough. Speaking after talks in Germany, Mr Chirac said the US proposals "seem quite far from what appears to us the primary objective, namely the transfer of political responsibility to an Iraqi government as soon as possible". In the draft text published on Thursday, the US says the UN should play a role in preparing for a new Iraqi government but it does not cede any political or military control. It came as US Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld called for 10,000 more foreign troops to be deployed in Iraq as part of a multinational force called for in the draft resolution. Mr Rumsfeld arrived in Baghdad on an unannounced visit on Thursday for talks with US commanders and civilian leaders there. Britain has also ordered a review of its troop numbers in Iraq. The US draft resolution says the UN should play a "vital role" in Iraq and its special representative should co-operate with the US-appointed Iraqi Governing Council in preparing for elections.

This is where that whole “freedom fries” thing backfires. This is where the zillion jokes made by late night talk show hosts about the French come back to bite them in the ass.

Rule number one in politics. If unilateralism is your credo, don’t expect those that you’ve shit on to come to your rescue.

BBC-The US secretary of state has embarked on an intensive round of telephone diplomacy aimed at winning support for a bigger UN role in Iraq. Colin Powell contacted the foreign ministers of Russia, France, Germany and the UK on Wednesday over plans which include transforming the coalition into a multinational force. UK officials have said that a new UN Security Council resolution approved by US President George Bush may be adopted within "weeks". In America, concern over the costs of the occupation is mounting whilst in Iraq itself the US-led coalition is under criticism for failing to prevent recent terror attacks…

…Despite a recent claim by chief US administrator Paul Bremer that Iraq is "not a country in chaos and Baghdad is not a city in chaos", events suggest otherwise. Mr Bush does not want to get bogged down there. The presidential election next year is a powerful incentive for the Bush team to consider any proposal that prevents Iraq from becoming a determining campaign issue. And the influential Congressional Budget Office (CBO), which carries out independent policy studies, has provided a practical reason for Mr Bush to change his policy.

I have truly lived to see a new era of idiocy ushered in. An era in which a nation can invade another country based on complete inaccuracies and then complain that occupying that nation is costing them too much money. An era in which the world is expected to come to their assistance even after the world was told to bugger off.

For the sake of the people of Iraq I hope that the UN does indeed involve itself. But at the same time I fully believe that if the United Nations is to step in that the United States must relinquish all control and influence in Iraq. That includes the formation of a new government, oil, and a laundry list of other interests.

The sheer arrogance at work here simply astounds me. I really don’t know what else to say other than it must be an election year.

I hope that the Poles will have it better than the Americans did. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

Hmm, wow, America has made some mistakes, but I am pretty sure I speak for "Great Satan" when I say shut the fuck up. Yeah, that's directed to Canadians that have these views in general, but specifically for Clumsyboy. Wow, maybe I should go onto a messageboard that has a bunch of Canadians and tell them why they're terrible. I can't fucking stand you.

wow, i suspected that to come after the last thread, why all this hate after 2 threads? One of which was just an americans patting us on the back, i am far from believing my counry perfect, it's corrupt as hell as well, and i being a moderate socialist do not agree with many practises used. But seriously, was anything i said that offensive? Enough for me to be some sort or asshole in your eyes? Have i ever personally attacked anyone on this board? the closest i have come is debating with Doug and Chris, and i'm sure they would say that i have never been openly hostile of insulting to either of them. This thread was a journal entry made by Matthew Good written about AMERICAN FOREIGN POLICY not american citizens, neither him or I have anything against the citizens of your country. Further more you then go on to threaten to go on a Canadian message board and insult Canada.........are you implying this is some sort of American Message board??? I thought it was a Our Lady Peace one, which happens to be one with a large Canadian following

I'm not sure what happened to you today, i assume it must have been something but i would appreciate you turning down the hate a bit

I've noticed all the negative articles are always about Americans. If we are the proud ignorant ones, why is it you don't see us posting mindless articles ripping apart your country? It's something I've noticed on this board. All you are doing by posting the Anti- American articles is making yourselves look bad.

There is no point arguing when the other party has already made up their mind...

Lukin, thank you, it's good to know someone else here notices all the anti-American sentiment here besides me.

Yes, this is an OLP messageboard, but all of the threads you start have negative American implications in it. There are lots of Americans on this board. The owners of the board are Americans. The guy responsible for this site is American. Yet all you do is make threads to let us know why America is inferior to everyone else. It's a tired bit. It can stop now. We all get the point, you don't like America, move on. We don't need to hear it.

Lukin said it best in his post. If we're truly the ignorant ones, why aren't we the ones posting the ignorant threads with ignorant comments about a country we don't live in? There is no need to let us know in multiple threads that our country isn't as good as yours. Go ahead, believe it, that's fine, we don't care to hear it anymore.

Yes, we have a complete moron for a leader. He wasn't the candidate the people wanted. He makes all the wrong choices. We already know. Just because the minority voted for him and got him into office doesn't mean all Americans are like him. It's not my fault this man got into office before I was able to vote, therefore, I should not have to be subjected to all the negative comments. He does not speak for me.

That's it. Plain and simple. The end.

as i said before none of the articles posted here, nor Matt's comment are directed at the american public, it's direced at your Politicans and FOREIGN POLICY, read the articles and tell me they're not. Also seeing as how these journals are about American Foreign policy please don't critisize unless your willig to make a intelligent debate against what matt said. Matt isn't some anti-american asshole, before 911 matt constantly critisized canada and our habits and policies, many considered him a "anti-canadian asshole", when really al he does is speaks the truth.

why is there anti-american sentiment on this board?

my anti-american sentiment is because of the war.

the US foreign policy stinks. if canada were invading iraq, i'd be just as negative towards that decision. i don't see the flag, i just see the falling bombs.

See, there's a difference between you and Doug. He brings in real articles to spark debate on nearly anything, not to mention he is clearly anti-government, not anti-American. I know what his views are and what they're about, and quite frankly, they're interesting, and I agree with him 99% of the time. You don't do the same Sean, so don't play if off like you do.

Mr. Good fails to mention that the US is the #1 global aid spender in the World. Let's see Canada put up the kind of bucks that keep 3rd World countries in tact.

How about when a country (such as Canada) gives manpower to help in things like peacekeeping, while other wealthier countries (which shall go unnamed) go to war?

See, that's the problem with you Canadians. You can never admit anything good about the US and somehow try to always turn it around and build up Canada's reputation. It's called "little-man's disease".
