Well Gail, I'll try to answer your question, but it will be skewed.
My favorite songs to hear live come off of Spiritual Machines, mostly because the first time I finally saw OLP came on that tour, and the rest of the shows I saw came on the Gravity tour, a cd I wasn't exactly in love with.
I can't say much about songs off of Naveed, because I've only seen 4 of the songs live, but they were damn good, I must say.
For Clumsy, I would say that's my second favorite to see live. God, hearing Car Crash live gave me chills. I still haven't gotten many words to 4AM out of Raine since I've been going to their concerts, so that sucks. I wanna hear that song live. Heh.
Happiness, I can't say much about this one either, because I've only heard three of the songs live. (OMA, IAH, and Thief)
And Gravity is OK, I suppose. The songs live are OK.

I faced death. I went in with my arms swinging. But I heard my own breath and had to face that I'm still living. I'm still flesh. I hold on to awful feelings. I'm not dead... My chest still draws breath. I hold it. I'm buoyant. There's no end.

I think they should bring back Supersatelite from Naveed. That song sounded amazing live. Off Clumsy they should do Let You Down. The Drums and Guitar are killer live. If you can, you have to hear Live From The Pitt(bootleg from 1998 DC off the clumsy tour). Although I knew of OLP before, CLumsy was the first time I got to see them perform. I bought the CD same night so when ever I played it I would think of the few songs they did off it. It wasn't until 98, that they really added alot off that CD. Sadly so, I can't remeber the last time I saw 4AM done by Raine only.
Off Happiness I always loved Stealing Babies, Thief, Blister(which hasn't been done since 2000) Potatogirl(which is another rare OLP song done live) and IAH done live. If you watch the 99 Woodstock you can see alot of Happiness songs done. I think that is one of the very few shows they actually did Happiness and the Fish live at. I never saw it live, only in soundcheck one time.
Off SM- I absolutely love Mafia, If You Believe and Are You Sad live. I only wish they would of done All My Friends-cause I love that song.
Off Gravity- I love Not Enough and Bring Back The Sun live. I also feel that within time Innocent will be like 4AM-cause at alot of shows I saw them at(small places) the audience would sing the first verse and chorus before Raine started singing.
I have to say that I am lucky because I got to see almost all of the songs done live. They use to do maybe 5-7 songs off the new CD's. Then more popular stuff. At least you got to see them on the SM tour. I really think that on the Happiness tour they started to come together a bit as alive band. On the SM tour, you could see how well they came together as a live act. Over the last few years the whole band has really come into their own as a live act. I perfer seeing them play the stuff live then on CD. I have bootlegs from all thetours that I listen to instead of the studio CD's.

I want Potato Girl, Blister, Stealing Babies, The Wonderful Future, and If You Believe. That's not asking for too much, is it?
If You Believe was my favorite song live. Ahhhh.

when I see them next week, I am going to say to them( Well Raine actually) that they should consider putting Supersatelie, Blister and Let You Down back in teh set next time they tour. I am going to tell him BLISTER mainly. I know besides me there are alot of people who want to see that song live again. We will see.
Raine is the one to talk to about these things I have found out.

To the best of my knowledge (and I could be wrong) that would be the 3rd of February this year in Ottawa. Raine sang the whole thing so it could be recorded for something

As for songs I really want to hear live, but haven't yet had the chance to - Blister (obviously!), Neon Crossing, Stealing Babies and Automatic Flowers.
I think we need to get some kind of petition together to give to OLP asking them to play Blister again

Open your eyes to nights and days, you close them up and float away
and somehow inbetween you've got to master lying to yourself
you back the cause, get out of school, you get a job, the job gets you
and somehow every day you end up serving somebody else
now if that ain't panic that you're feeling, then you damn well better start
you can drive it into that head of yours with the hammer in your heart.
And it's alriiiiiiiight now, take the world and make it yours again.

It would be nice if they brought back Blister, but I don't know if it will happen. Hasn't Raine been having problems with his throat or something? I know that singing falsetto isn't the smartest thing to do when your throat is easily strained, not to mention Blister isn't exactly the easiest song to play. I dunno, if they brought it back, I would be the first person in line to buy tickets.

After i see them live i can't stop listening to them
Same here. That's the only thing that made me like them actually.
I've only seen two shows from Gravity, so I know that I can't really say much on this. I like the Clumsy, Naveed, and Happiness (I haven't heard ANY from SM). If I had to ask for songs that I think would be amazing live, I'd ask for Birdman, Made To Heal, In Repair, Stealing Babies, Clumsy, Blister, Shaking, Are You Sad, and Annie. I'm sure there's more, but that's all I can think of now.
the reason why OLP sounds better live is because that the type of band they are. when you have to work your ass off playing live shows, you get really damn good at it. alot of bands can sound sweet on cd but totally blow live.. examples (the used, finch) yea they have tons of energy... but their sound is just horribly off. when i saw those two bands they're live shows weren't very good at all, but i love both cds.

meh they are to some point, but there improv is sadly lacking, but i think that was largely due to guitar and band tightness problems, to be able to improve and jam you need a REALLY tight band, and you need some really good players, Mike was amazing at writing music, but it was a long process which meant no improv. Not to mention duncan is more of a melody bass player not a stand alone one.
All of these are just assumptions of course from what we're seen of olp, they may very well all have the things need but RAINE just isn't down with jams or extented intrumentals and solo's

I don't really care either way about having random solos and instrumentals in songs. I kind of like it when the band sticks to the general sound of the song. Like if OLP brought Blister back to the setlist and added a four minute solo to it, I would be beyond pissed off. However, if during that solo they play part of like Potato Girl, I wouldn't mind that much, but let's stop kidding ourselves here.
We have no idea what the band thinks about anything. The closest person to the band we know is Gail or Stace, and even they don't know what keeps them from doing things, and we all will probably never know. There's no reason to point fingers everywhere, because we don't know what will happen with the next tour. Hell, for all we know, they could change their setlist everynight and add back like Made To Heal and Blister, but we don't know this yet. So like I said, there's no reason to assume it's someone's fault they don't do this and that.

sorry, i didn't mean to sound so critical of there live act, but i just like to see some variation everynow and then, or see the guitarist shine a bit more live, really if you got the moves use them, it just needs to stay tasteful and not turn into long 80's era heavy metal shit. As long as it fits with the song it's all good. Not unlike the new intro's and such, just less predictable and less practised

plus ussually add a jam or long improv to a upbeat or fast song, adding it to Blister would be disasterous unless only a small amount of tinkering was done

No no no, I completely agree with you about variation in their shows. In another thread, I spoke about how much I wanted it for pages on end, but what I am saying is we can't identify what the problem is, because we don't know. I agree with you on the variation though, 100%

I think it'd be so cool if just on occasion OLP throws in a crazy surprise song that no one expects like an Annie, or a Denied.
I haven't checked setlists the entire year of 2003, they are all the same. Hopefully when OLP goes back to headlining next year they play crazy sets
I mean, I almost creamed myself when I saw they played The Wonderful Future at Villanova. Then I cried because nobody bootlegged
