A Fit Of Insanity???

Post by bovine »

I was recently listening to the Craven show on Real One Player and I noticed a new feature. If it recognizes the artist you're playing, it will give some quick facts about them and sometimes some pictures as well (maybe this is an old feature, I don't know, but I just noticed it recently). Anyway, on of the facts about OLP was:

In a fit of insanity, jazz drummer great Elvin Jones agreed to perform on the band's third album.

A FIT OF INSANITY?!?! Could it be possible that EJ actually respects the talent of OLP and likes their music? What was the person who wrote that thinking? That someone can't be a great jazz musician and respect and even enjoy great rock musicians?

Although I play a little guitar, I wouldn't call myself a "great musician" of any type, but I like so many different types of music. If I were a "great musician" however, I don't see myself likeing any less types of music. In fact, if there would be a difference at all, I would expect it to be the opposite - I would be *more* open to different styles. If my favorite 2 bands are rock bands (OLP and Nirvana) and my next favorite is a jazz band (The Bad Plus), I don't see why EJ would have had to have taken a "fit of insanity" to play with OLP and to enjoy their music.

Well, I could go on, but I think that might be overkill. Feel free to discuss!

He played on Stealing Babies. He was actually at the show with OLP when they toured with Creed back in 99.
What I felt before was wrong, I told myself all along, these familiar feelings take away the pain. And with this reason to rebel, I told you how I felt, you turned and sighed and said you couldn't feel a thing for me. And I lost another wish in all of this.

With Live stuff and bootlegs it normally wouldn't pick that stuff up, it depends on how people TAG their mp3s. But I made sure to tag my mp3s correctly, so that's cool that it actually recognized it as OLP.

That's awesome...I didn't know that! Did he play with OLP at all or was he in the audience?
