Rock Instrumentals

Post by cor3y »

Anyone know of some good rock instrumentals? I absolutely love them. They don't have to be completely instrumental, but vocals need to take a backseat to instruments.

Limp Bizkit - Everything (my favorite song to fall asleep to....)
Revis - hidden track at end of album

I know I remembered more when I was thinking about making this thread and hour or so ago... forget em now.

Good Topic! I love rock instrumentals too... keep the song lists coming if anyone has more, since they seem to be pretty rare in music today

Here are a couple off the top of my head that I really like:

Godspeed You Black Emperor! - "Moya" (lots of stuff going on here -- epic build-up -- really grabs your attention once the drums & electric guitars start goin... very cool instrumental song!)

Joe Satriani - "Summer Song" (mostly just guitar soloing & a basic drum beat, but it's simply amazing what this guy can do)

If you don't know this song, you have to check it out. I think it was the first instrumental to go #1 or something, or maybe just the longest song to be a hit. It's old school from the 70's.

Although they're really a jazz band, The Bad Plus does covers of a bunch of rock songs and everything they do is instrumental (piano, upright bass, drums). One cover that they are really known for is Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana (that should be pretty easy to find on kazaa or the like). They also cover Aphex Twin, Abba, Blondie, even Black Sabbath (although the Black Sabbath one will be hard-if not impossible-to find as it's not on either of their major releases).

Brutus is an honorable man
It's just coincidence that oil men will wage war in an oil rich land
And this one goes out to my man taking cover in the trenches with a gun in his hand
Then gets home and no one flinches when he can't feed his fam...

But Brutus is an honorable man...

Godspeed You Black Emeperor = sweet. I own all their albums

Swervedriver - Behind the Scenes of the Sounds and the Times
There's some vocals in the middle, but it's still largely instrumental with some sweet sweet riffs.

Tower of Power - Squib Cakes
Yeah, it's really hard Funk, but it's about 6 minutes of straight improv.

Rheostatics - Alomar
It's just under two minutes long, but it's just fun instrumental.

Reel Big Fish - Sayonara Senorita, 241, and Victory Over Peter Bones
RBF is a great Ska band, but they do an instrumental song on every album.

Sayonara Senorita is fun as HELL. Seriously, download it. If you don't like the song, you'll like the funny background dialogue. I was very pleasently surprised the first time I heard it.
241 is just some straight Ska instrumental, but great none the less.
Victory Over Peter Bones is very much a jazz song by them. Personally, I love it 'cause I dig that kind of thing, but I was really impressed by it.

And that's list of recommendations.

Get downloading :uh:

Green Day - Espionage is good, too
"Sh*t, id be f*ckin' scared if us were opening for...us"
-Dave Grohl on why the Red Hot Chili Peppers only let the Foos play a 45 minute set when they toured together

"baby, i wish you were my baby,
ill make u make a baby,
let's make electric power,
in fear u should not cower,
cuz girl i will protect u,
i promise not to sex u,
and IiiiiIiiiiIiiiiiiIiiiiiIiiiiii...." - Dudez a Plenti

"all by myself
cause I don’t want to drag you down, hold you down
cause you’re a friend
i blame myself
i guess you think it’s funny now, funny now
it's such a shame..."
-Feeder - Just a Day

how many albums does Black Emporer have? i can only find the cardboard one
"How can we justify spending so much on destruction and so little on life?" Matthew Good

"The white dove is gone, the one world has come down hard, so why not share the pain of our problems, when all around are wrong ways, when all around is hurt, i'll roll up in an odd shape and wait, untill the tide has turned.....with anger, i'm dead weight, i'm anchored"- IME, God Rocket (Into the Heart of Las Vegas) ^ Some say this song is about a terrorists thoughts before 911

"Pray for the sheep" Matt Good
"But it's alright, take the world and make it yours again" Matt Good

I felt it in the wind, and i saw it in the sky, i thought it was the end, i thought it was the 4th of July.

I've been thinking about checking this band out. There was a girl who went to my high school who loved them and most of the bands she liked I was a huge fan of as well (OLP for example). Any suggestions as to their better songs?
