The New Direction

Post by trentm32 »

I was listening to "Wipe That Smile..." and Walking In Circles", and I got to thinking about how this stuff compares to other OLP works. In my opinion, it's cooler than Gravity-era stuff, so I'm pro-sixth album. Plus I thought "Wipe..." was really cool, even though I'm pro-Bush (U.S.A. woo-hoo!) I could totally see myself digging a politically motivated OLP CD.

What does everyone else think about the 'new' direction the band is taking?
"When looking up there, I just felt whole, like I belonged. Like one day I too would shine my most brilliant. Sitting there also made me think about sitting through services at my little country church back home. About that never-changing congregation of the same sixty-seven people and everyone has known you since before you were born. Now, out here in the real world, everything just seemed more vivid than when I used to sit in that little pew. That pew that was now so, so far away from where I was. I feared I had somehow left God behind there, too. I feared he was somehow just sitting there, saving my seat on the fifth pew from the front row, just waiting on me to come back. I left so quickly, I worried that he may not have noticed I was gone. And, now, I’m just too far away to find. So he’s just sitting there, patiently waiting on me to come back. I closed my eyes and prayed a moment. I hoped more than anything that he could still hear me." -an excerpt from my novella, A Sea of Fallen Leaves.

It could be better... but then again, it could be a whole heck of a lot worse. I think album 6 is basically a wait-and-see kind of thing. I guess I gotta hear a few more songs before I give it a yay or a nay.

I'll be buying the album no matter what, but I like Not Afraid and Wipe That Smile of Your Face a lot. I'm trying to not judge too much in advance though, til I hear the actual studio recordings and some more songs.

better than gravity but doesn't compare to the first 4.

The guitar solos are kinda cheesy if you ask me. I mean yeah they fit the song but they're nothing real great. They're diffinitly not as good as the ones from "Bring Back The Sun" and "Not Enough"

Also we should be carefull to jump the gun and rate these songs. I mean I really didn't care for the live versions of "Our Time Is Fading" untill I heard the one from their Live album. That version was a million times better than the other ones I'd heard. I just like the guitar riff steve plays during the Chorus I think it adds a whole new demention to the song, and in the version on the HUB you can bearly even hear that guitar part in it.

I find the WTSOYF solo to be better than the Bring Back the Sun one.......when comparing live versions to each other. The one off the album is a little unfair to compare it to because the quality is so much better.

I usually don't like music that is too political. It can get too serious for me. But with some bands, if it's done well...it's totally fin...mmmmm  mm
