The Fine Print

Post by Axtech »

This is an indie band that I've really been into as of late. I found out about them because the lead singer Jerry is also Tycho from PA (click the wang).

They've got an alternative sound that's mixed with poppy melodies, but the music is complicated (and alt) enough that it's not your standard radio-friendly crap.

They've got an 11 song album that (as far as I know) is only available on mp3.com at http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/19/the_fine_print.html

Or, if you're like me and have no credit card, you can find then on Kazaa after a lengthy search.

Here's the tracklist:

1 As Soon As
2 1995 Penny
3 Gravity Well
4 Strawberry Jam
5 English
6 Packed to Sell
7 1995 Penny - Live
8 Gravity Well - Live
9 Strawberry Jam - Live
10 January Picasso
11 Even Keel - Not Never Now

The album's called $484.00

Personally, 1995 Penny is a little too poppy, but the rest of the non-live parts of the album are good (I think January Picasso and Even Kell - Not Never Now are live too, though the site doesn't say that).

Every now and then I fall out into open air just to feel the wind, rain and everything.
And though the hum and sway gets me down
, I'll find the way to peace and openness.

I was wondering why the band name sounded familiar.

Susie will listen.

Yes, you should.

Plus, it's good if you know PA, because you can go in with something to identify with, instead of just listening to a faceless band...

Yay. :)

I love the lyrics too.

Gravity Well
(chorus... I don't know the rest)
I'll take it with relish, embellish and sell
I'll take it from you and from no one else
I'm taking up residence on your shelf

1995 Penny
(even though it's so upbeat, it's actually about abuse, lyrics from mp3.com)
well isn't that something! You're pissing on me!
Not wholly unique, but disconcerting at least -
You're cracking that crust over the littlest thing -
and hanging a flaunce over my blood and my brains, well you

know I don't ask when you're tying up my hands and showing me the sea

please

and then I'm just leaving and then I'm just losing all these pieces of me
it takes me hours to get my head around things i don't give a good god damn about
not that anyone's listening, alright

And if it ain't one thing, you're kissing on me - though I feel you use tongue, well, disproportionately
you're copping that feel you feel your station receives
and modify me till even my spirit believes

you're thinking cause i sing you know i won't scream
i'll sit quiet as cotton to your silly regime
say nothing to no-one re: nefarious scheme
and i've got to agree
don't inconvenience me

Strawberry Jam
(lyrics from mp3.com)
and with aplomb she crumpled me like paper and
like a bomb she made an unskyscraper and
every day we are tapering down

strawberry jam, you know
that's just the way i am so love me back
love me back,
you could have diluted that attack,
but i don't mind,
and it's about time
and i don't have to wait in line
to be knocked down
can get that anywhere in town.

without sound we are
watch this old movie and
from the ground to the sky to our doom we are
wise as wickets whom things pass inexorably through

My favourite lyrically:

English
(mp3.com... about miscommunication resulting in a fight/break-up)
she is not mobile, she just watches me
i am noticable when light catches me
i am illegible any way you look at me
you know my english has deficiencies

and is it any wonder that I
when faced with these odds
would even it with lies
and is it any wonder that i
surrounded by storm
surmounted by swarm
would attempt to obtain the prize

there's a terror to the scenery
a certain fervor to the front of me
and i count them as my enemies
those who mean to be close to me
