Guitar players...
i don't think it's the barre chords really that bother some people, it's just the lack of complexity and variation, but that's also a stereotype and to each there own one mans garbage is another's treasure

yeah it's funny, people bash punk for it's simplicity then five minutes later they are defending the fact that simple can still be great.
punk rock is the best music out there. face it.

Meh... I wouldn't underestimate what good music gives to a song. They work with the lyrics.

LOL. I half-agree, but I know if I had the money he has, I would change guitars after every freaking song if I felt like it.

Well, that depends on if ur cute, and rich. Are you?

No, I'm not cute or rich, but I am musically inclined. I write damn good lyrics that I stopped sharing with the board. I can play the bass really well. Since I started learning how to actually sing so I don't blow my throat out, I can sing pretty well. I am working on the guitar, and I hope to be able to play it better than most of those pop-rock stars.
I faced death. I went in with my arms swinging. But I heard my own breath and had to face that I'm still living. I'm still flesh. I hold on to awful feelings. I'm not dead... My chest still draws breath. I hold it. I'm buoyant. There's no end.
but music doesn't have to be complex to be good. i write good music. i compliments my lyrics.
i win.

I hope you're not directing that at me. I did say a while back that punk didn't count as music but that was just a joke, I really like a lot of punk like AFI and the Ramones.

I think that that attitude and ambition... well, that makes you cute. I'd rather have a "not cute" guy with actual brains and spirit, rather than an uncreative, stupid, prett boy. But, I'm old-fashioned

my only thing about power chords is that it limits the amount that you can do. there are only so many combinations that can be made with two or three strings.
as a matter of personal preference, i like complex chords because i think they sound gorgeous. its almost like it strikes many different emotions at once. when i was in my high school choir, we sang this song called "water night" by eric whitacre....one of the most beautiful songs i've ever heard (download highly suggested). the reason that it was so beautiful is because of complex chords and chord dissinance (sp?) for example, at one point in the song, there were 14 different notes sung all at once...wow
in terms of pop music, i think that complex chords give a song more variability, but having complex chords doesn't mean that a song is hard to play. excellent example: "bulletproof" by radiohead.
this is the verse:
- Am7 Cmaj7 Gmaj7/B Dsus2
e--0------0--------2--------0----
B--1------0--------3--------3----
G--0------0--------0--------2----
D--2------2--------0--------0----
A--0------3--------2--------X----
E--X------X--------X--------X----

Well, I guess I just don't see the importance of the guitar. I listen to the music because those guys can rock out with their cock out. And although Alkaline Trio and bands of the sort might not have all these great chords in their songs, they still entertain me like no other. They are fun, write great songs, and can sing. That's all I care about.
The bonus of Alkaline Trio is that the bassist Danny Andriano is amazing. He has complicated songs like Goodbye Forever and has amazing runs in songs like Mister Chainsaw, For Your Lungs Only, Nose Over Tail, and Cringe. The three different drummers in the bands have been amazing, two of which are legends in the little punk genre (Mike Felumlee of The Smoking Popes and Derek Grant of The Suicide Machines and The Vandals). And cut Matt Skiba some slack, he's just a drummer that picked up a guitar one day and started playing with his friends, and now they're this amazing band.

I would worship Glenn if I knew if he was still alive. Mike and Derek have been in legendary bands though, you must admit.
