Well said, Matt. Well said indeed.

Gravity is obviously nowhere near OLP's past stuff. It's different. It's not great, but it's not too shabby either. The next album seems like it could really have that old OLP edge that we've all been craving. Again, it might not be up to par with the pre-Gravity stuff, but it should kick some serious ass.

The unique feel to Gravity was nothing more than the feel of a Creed or Nickleback album. They abandoned everything that made them unique. The falsetto, which was the biggest difference between OLP and any other band out there, was abandoned on this album to produce stuff like Somewhere Out There and Innocent. Sure, it made their album go gold, but the last time I checked, Clumsy went platinum in the US and diamond in Canada, and on that album, they hold nothing back. The songs aren't generic, the voice was unique, and each song on that album was a masterpiece that damn near any band would love to release. I am saying this about Clumsy, and it's only my 3rd favorite OLP album.

Yes, it's great that OLP changes their style on each album. I would grow tired if they put out three straight Spiritual Machines. But what they are "evolving" into is nothing more than generic stuff. Gravity was all about the half-assed lyrics and catchy guitar, and that got them some new fans. From the new stuff I tried to listen to, all I hear is heavy guitar, like many of the other bands out there today. That isn't what I think of OLP when I listen to them. I don't think of OLP as a band following trends. I swear to God, if they make Duncan or Steve start screaming, I will wait after one of their shows in Detroit and shoot them all. No questions asked.

When I think Our Lady Peace, I think of deep songs lacking cliches, technical guitar riffs from Mike, drum beats that don't sound like something produces from a machine, and the falsetto. The things that drew me to the band in the first place are gone, and I don't find OLP to be one of my favorite bands anymore. They're nothing more than a band where I might buy their cd sometime down the line, might check out if they're in town, and generally ignore. Like I've said before, the only reason I bought Gravity was to get it signed at an in-store performance in Detroit. That's it.

u know its a bad sign when they are playing stadiums and arenas now instead of clubs.

at least here in the US they used to just play clubs, now they've moved on to bigger things...

example: columbus they normally play at the newport. this year they played at promo -west

it pisses me off cause club settings are so much more intimate then standing in an arena or stadium...
fuck getting huge and popular, my friends band quit playing because they didn't want to get famous... and they were well on their way already to being famous...now olp is getting real big in the US and they have to play big stadium shows or big arenas... its uber retarded.

Can you really tell from four songs that they're evolving into nothing more than generic stuff? Well, it sure is great how much faith you have in OLP.

We shouldn't give up on OLP because of one freakin' album. Just about every band puts out that one crappy album. You can't expect them to put our perfectly awesome albums all the freakin' time. I mean, it's been what, 11 years right? And they've disappointed us a total of one time(at least for me, it's been only one time, and I'm sure for a lot of you Gravity is the only disappointment) Seriously though, if the next album is crap, then sure, give up on them. But stop saying 'ooooh they're not a rock band anymore!' until the next album comes out, alright? Four freakin' songs aren't much to go on. Though I think the songs are sounding pretty damn good.

I can tell they're generic from Gravity and the four new songs. I know what kind of music I like, and the last 14 or 15 songs they're put out have done nothing for me. Why pretend that I like bad music? If I wanted to like their new stuff, I would go out and buy a generic rock band's cd, because that is at least what they are and they probably do it better than OLP anyways.

Like I said, if this is what OLP will become, then I am not buying their stuff anymore. I will listen to pre-Gravity music and ignore what is on the radio every half hour. When they can put some good music out again, I'll start listening again. Until then, it's not worth my time or money.

I was explaining my sadness about OLP to one of my friends and I said "It makes me really sad because they really had something that you didn't hear often, or anywhere else, and then they completely dumbed themselves down and lost everything that made them special."

I probably will NOT be buying the next album...At first, I liked Gravity, and some of the songs are okay, but after my computer died I redownloaded a lot of stuff from Gravity and had to delete them because it was painful to listen to, because I got all nostalgic and remembered how INCREDIBLE they used to be.

I think a lot of people on here like Gravity only because it's by OLP. If Gavity sounded the way it does but had some other band name on it would you like it? It's like because it's OLP you have to like it. What kind of fan would you be otherwise right?

I don't like Gravity because its from OLP. I actually like the songs on the album. The only song i really can't listen to anymore is Innocent.I heard that song way too much. I mean i'm not gonna buy an album just because its from my favorite band.If i didn't like it, I wouldn't own it.

The funny thing is, if Gravity had another band name on it I would probably like it more. I'd think it was a pretty good album. But because it's OLP and they have done so much better before, it's a disappointment.

Did that make sense?

If there was another band's name on there, I'd just laugh at it and change the radio station. It's not that good of an album. They have three decent-at-best songs on there, and beyond that, it's just commonplace trash.

All the other albums sounded like they took time writing the lyrics and working on the music, making sure add all these complicated runs in it and sounds like there's some emotion in it. The lyrics are ambiguous enough to make you play the song a few times to get the right feel to what the song is supposed to mean. Listening to Blister, Waited, Carnival, or The Wonderful Future still gives me chills.

With Gravity and the new songs, all I hear is basic, run-of-the-mill music. The lyrics are forced. The music isn't creative at all. Like I said, if I wanted to hear heavy guitars, I'd listen to something like Trapt.

On top of that, Gravity and the new songs sound like something they just came up with, played a couple of times, and left the studio. Their previous four cds sound amazing. They sound like they took time on each aspect of the song. The drums are erratic but good, the bass is great, the guitar blows your mind, and the lyrics shock you. It also sounds like Raine took his time to see how he should sing over the guitar. With Gravity, it sounds like they took each layer, tossed it on top of each other, and whatever comes out is great for them.

If you like the new stuff, more power to ya, this is what I see from their new stuff, and it disappoints me.

i was listening to sm today, and i realized that i love all the effects and background noise on it. it adds so much to it, having another layer, and gravity is missing that. some of the new stuff is okay, not the best i've ever heard, but it has potential...as soon as they get me in the studio working on the tracks.....

thats all :uh:
