Does anyone miss OLP the Rock band?

Post by I AM ME »

Olp seemed to have turned into a Pop Rock band, and i still lovethem and all, but i really really miss the band that used to be rock and post grunge, and don't give me some story on howthey rock harder now, because you know it's a lie. Listen to Clumsy and Naveed, or listen to home, or dear prudence, raine doesn't even sing like a rocker much anymore. And our time is fading, whatever, and all for you does NOT make them rock. Hell All For You isn't even edgier then ANYTHING on clumsy or naveed.

I felt it in the wind, and i saw it in the sky, i thought it was the end, i thought it was the 4th of July.

i always was under the impression they were an alternative band, ie, olp and mgb being the two biggest alternative bands in canada. then when gravity came out, they were all about how they were going back to being the rock band they always were.

me: :wtf: you guys were a ROCK band? where was i?....

but speaking of rock, ive never seen anyone rock out so hard on an acoustic guitar than raine during the naveed video. i seriously thought he was gonna break it 8O

yeah well they used to be called alternative too, Post-grunge being a form of alternative. But yeah he used to rock, and they are by FAR not alternative now besides the odd song

I miss the more intellectual side of the band.

I'm hoping that this next album is going to have the passionate rock that you're talking about.

Like Johnathon, I was always under the impression that Our Lady Peace was an alternative rock band, so really ... I still see them that way.
I, like Rob, can also only hope for a more intellectual album the next time around.

I agree completely with Rob. I mean, that man is a genius. I don't think there's anything he's ever said that hasn't been correct and intellectual.

OLP has always been more dramatic then your normal rock band and these new songs are giving that up. The imagery they used was good but now they are just a straight foward rock band who seem to rush through the set. I am so mixed b/c as I listen to the intro from Starseed from Craven I see creativity but then I put on the new songs and it all fades away.

exactly, and most of you missed my point, i'm not talking about actual labels, whatever they had on Clumsy and Naveed and then to a more decreasing extent on Happiness and SM, is now gone, they no longer are even anywhere close to the same music. I'm not expecting the same music of course, but i miss where olp was going before, now i'm get more and more jaded about there future all the time, seriously all you go back and listen to old olp, and tell me it doesn't break your heart

it just seems as Raine aged he lost that energy and inner fire. He's gone soft in a way, and has begun to dumb done his lyrics and music as well, going soft is one thing, Matt G did but kept the intellectual part, but OLP leaves me very little to love nowadays, besides past glories. The intro's were genius, but for some reason olp have become to commercial to ever use music like that on a record

I miss OLP before-gravity era.
Things have changed too much since Mike left... Which leads me to think that he had an enormous influence on Our Lady Peace's sound...

I really haven't been impressed by what Our Lady Peace has done since he left, which I think is quite sad.

Cheers.

Steve may technically be a better player and i've grown to love him, but i think mike influenced much more then just guitar in the band, alot more. Infact for Naveed and somewhat Clumsy i think he played a huge part in every aspect.

PS this thread is the product of me going back and listening to Naveed and CLumsy alot, esspecially alot of live stuff.....it breaks my heart
