You know what? I just read the title of this whole thread and I realized that I don't give a flying fuck what Matthew Good thinks of Our Lady Peace. I have no clue why we're dwelling on his pointless comments instead of moving onto another topic. If I said the Live album was overdubbed, no one would care. But if Matt Good says that there is something wrong with it, oh no...you better throw away the CD and listen to what he says. Matt is, after all, a musical genius. And because of his musical know-how he can (for some reason) say whatever the hell he wants about other musicians without getting his ass kicked. If someone like Shawn Desman commented negatively about other bands, there'd be a lineup of people ready to kick the shit out of him. Matt really needs deflate his head and come back down to Earth.
PS: No, I do not hate Matt Good or his music. I just hate his whole "I've got an opinion and you better listen" attitude.

I merely used Matt Good's quote to introduce the topic. I felt there was some added non-live elements added to the Live CD and it just so happened Mr. Good felt the same way.
He doesn't have any sort of attitude about who listens to him... He was merely posting in a topic on his website's message board, just like an ordinary typical person. You should go visit his site sometime, the fans over there realize that he's just an ordinary guy, they don't go nuts everytime the man posts a message about something.

no I think it was uncalled for as well. You associated Matt with the image that's been given to him by the media, it wasn't based on anything else.
ANyways not that it matters, this has very little to do with anything

Of course she is going to state the image that is given to him by the media, because none of us here know a thing about him, and none of us here are personal friends with the guy and never will be. The only time Matt Good gets mentioned is when he has an album come out or he has an opinion about something, mostly aimed to piss people off. I see him as nothing more than a musician that tries to piss people off for no reason, and I sincerely think he gets off on making people angry.
I faced death. I went in with my arms swinging. But I heard my own breath and had to face that I'm still living. I'm still flesh. I hold on to awful feelings. I'm not dead... My chest still draws breath. I hold it. I'm buoyant. There's no end.
bazillions of singers distort or echo their voice through the same mic they use to sing every other moment of a show. it's not done onstage it's done offstage by the soundcrew working the soundboard that exists in every concert in the universe except maybe my sisters violin recital. every band and venue has a sound crew. one band to use as an example even though not too too many people know them is greenwheel... ryan jordan has one of the strongest voices i've ever heard live, and even he runs his voice through the soundboard, and occasionally an echo effect or a distortion effect is used.
all im saying is that it's easy to throw on that distortion or that echo.
i just thought of a killer example... some of you may remember this and most of you probably won't, but i have them on video doing superman's dead on conan obrien. during the chorus... when he says "whyeee-i-e-i-e YEAH" the yeah has an extremely strong echo. and it's beyond obvious that he only sings it once, and uses no other mic's. just an example of how it is possible to use vocal effects through one mic.
also, some people were right in saying that adjusting the volume of certain elements is not overdubbing. overdubbing would be taking the live recording, bringing it into the studio, the band would then go into the studio and place new recordings over the live ones. or they could take previously existing recordings and place them over the live ones... but i would highly doubt that as they play everything a few beats faster live, and if you to make the original recordings faster to keep up, the pitch would raise and it would sound like garbage.
case in point... i know the studio pretty well... and i dont detect any overdubbing. the band sounds great musically (raines voice sounds flat live as usual) but they have sounded great musically since steve came into play. he simply is a better guitar player and allows his guitar to be louder in the mix than mike did. in case you dont remember, mike's guitars were always very quiet live.
ok im done

Hey theo, just got your response today... by media attention I was a little too specific for ya I guess eh... I was just tryin to get across that he needs attention since his little band fell apart...
And the funny thing is his music is actually good! I always said he was next in line to OLP in my opinion but some people need to grow up and realize that anything they say can alter people's opinions of them... and matt's got a long way to go to win back a lot of people in that respect!!
Thanks

matt good still has a band not the same one but he still has a band and made a better album.
raine does not and has not used distortion in a concert since SM tour and it was done in a studio.
some of you people need to go to http://www.nationofcool.com and look around matt good's site and see that he communicates with fan and designs and runs his own site

actually the i'm pretty sure the media make matt up to be that person, he's told stories about how when he's approached by th emedia they purposfuly ask him certain questions so they can put in there jagazine as a big shocking rant, one on case a reporter asked matt "so is there anyone you really want to trash for us?" matt promptly hung up the phone, of course later that magazine printed an article about how matt rudely hung up on a reporter...

It really is a bitch how the media can make you look like a dick or a saint, isn't it? For all we know Matt Good could be donating money to charities or something, but hey, if all people hear about Matt Good are the bad things, what are they to think?

actually matt is, he plays a huge part in lots of charities esspecially Amnesty International. Yeah the media just get a kick out of him though, so know they go up to him with pre-designed question trying to get him to shoot his mouth off.

for the record, if you check www.nationofcool.com now, Matthew Good says that there are users using his pseudo-name ie. MG so as for that now, I'm pretty sure that the real Matthew Good did not write that thing about OLP.
End of story.
