What Matt Good said about the Live album...
ok... Overdubbing... the best example woul dhave the be as mentioned Raine's voice during Whatever, I'm sorry but he's never sounded like without is voice distortioner and never once was it mentioned that he brought it along with him on this tour. Another example is Jer's drums during IAH. During the part that the crowd screws up, Jer suddenly jumps in rather loudly and early to drown out the crowd's lack of knowledge of the song, coincidence? There are other parts that I've noticed that have been enhanced but I don't have my CD on me at the moment. I'll listen tonight for a couple more precise examples. Doesn't it the band's sound just sound too perfect though? I'm sorry but I've never heard them sound so precise in concert even if they took the best from 3 nights.
I don't think there's much I can contribute to Alan's posts. I think he's summed up the feelings that a lot of us have. I remember sending my best friend an OLP lyric of the day and he's try and decipher what the lyric meant... ya I couldn't do much of that during Gravity.
I think the best way to see the quality between Gravity and let's say Happiness is to listen to both with headphones on. There are things on happiness that I'm still discovering, tiny little minute things that really enhance the song, and you really have to appreciate it because there's gotta be some reason for some tiny sound in the background, and it's just a tribute to their hardwork. Not saying they aren't working hard right now, but it's just not the same, and it's not the OLP that has grown on all of us.
You're right Corey, the band doesn't owe us a thing. They already do a lot for their fans. How many "big" bands stick around after shows to talk to fans? From what I've been told, not many...
ya that's all I have to say at the moment...

I can't wait until the day schools are over-funded and the military is forced to hold bake sales to buy planes.

ya sorry. I was thinking about that when I was posting it, but I meant in general they stick around with their fans.
and ya I read your thing about Whatever, so I'll give you props for that one

I don't know about Utah and all, but here in Detroit, Clumsy is viewed as a classic record, and Gravity certainly is not.
Not to diss my own home or anything, but the ONLY songs I hear on the X96 station are from Gravity. Innocent, Somewhere Out There, Story About a Girl. I would shit my pants if I heard 4AM or Naveed or Birdman. There just isn't a very large fan base for it here, appearantly. I can see how it would be different in Detroit, since you are so close to Canada there. PS, I used to live in Detroit, lol.
I agree with almost eveything you have said about Gravity. You are right, if you listen to Happiness or SM and then listen to Gravity...well there just aren't as many tiny little effects that catch your attention. But in a way, I like it. The songs are not SO simplistic that they don't make you think. They aren't as complex, but maybe he was having a bit of writer's block? I'd give my left foot to have that kind of block. Concerning the falsetto...I am just crossing my fingers that he uses it more on this next album. But his falsetto caught my attention in Gravity and that is what first made me a fan, not the other albums.
Well that is pretty much a summary of what everyone else has said. But I still like Gravity no matter what anyone says. It's by far not my favorite, but I'm not going to give up on them just cause it isn't my fav. If you look at ANY band, the fans ALWAYS hate the latest album the most cause they are "selling out".

The drumming isn't overdubbing. That's just adjusting the sound levels.
The distortion could have easily been done through his regular mic because he didn't want to have a second mic any more. It could have also just been added to the vocal track afterwards during mixing. That's still not overdubbing.

the drumming comes in somewhat earlier then any other show i've seen or heard though, and it seems oftly pronounced and loud.
the thing is that everything sounds a lil too perfect. It's almost as if no one missed a beat. The only one that sounded as if he was live was Raine and even then his voiced is altered sometimes...

which means they took the footage from Montreal and said it was part of the Alberta show

either that or they took the song from the alberta show and then took the talking after the song in montreal and meshed them together.
