First off, I've heard of IME, and I have a few of their songs on my computer.
Back to the radio and OLP. First on this subject, the People's Choice winner was not off Gravity, but the live album, and except for two or three tests, they had cupcake bands. They lost to 311, which may be the shittiest band ever. Don't get me wrong, I love that song, but it's not hard to win when it's a juggernaut versus a no name band. About the airplay, I haven't heard SOT or Innocent on the radio in months, and that is no lie. I hear their older stuff much more frequently than the newer singles. The point I was trying to make is the station and the fans prefer the different, edgy, old stuff rather than the new stuff that sounds like nearly every other band out there today.
It's not like making themselves sound different from every other band out there would be difficult. Bring back the falsetto, hardly anyone in music uses it, and no one comes close to using it as well as Raine does. How about adding some strings or synthesizers to the songs? If they just use the same instruments as old, it would be much easier to pick them out from a crowd of alt-rock music. What they do with that, I don't care. I just cringe at the thought of OLP going from amazing, technical and complex to simplistic and straight-forward. It's just wrong.

I faced death. I went in with my arms swinging. But I heard my own breath and had to face that I'm still living. I'm still flesh. I hold on to awful feelings. I'm not dead... My chest still draws breath. I hold it. I'm buoyant. There's no end.

"How can we justify spending so much on destruction and so little on life?" Matthew Good
"The white dove is gone, the one world has come down hard, so why not share the pain of our problems, when all around are wrong ways, when all around is hurt, i'll roll up in an odd shape and wait, untill the tide has turned.....with anger, i'm dead weight, i'm anchored"- IME, God Rocket (Into the Heart of Las Vegas) ^ Some say this song is about a terrorists thoughts before 911
"Pray for the sheep" Matt Good
"But it's alright, take the world and make it yours again" Matt Good
I felt it in the wind, and i saw it in the sky, i thought it was the end, i thought it was the 4th of July.
"Hold on, hold on children, your mother and father are leaving, hold on, hold on children your best freind's parents are leaving, leaving,.......*AHHH*! " - Death From Above - Black History Month

Well, you're right on the part that the beat out some pretty crappy bands but they did beat out a few well known ones- The White Stripes are one of the most popular bands in North America today, and they are also from Detroit. They beat out Finger 11 and the Ataris as well who are also pretty successful. Like I said, you're right that they beat some crappy bands, but to win some nights with over 90% of the votes- that's crazy. You would think that at least out of 100 people that vote, more than 3 people would vote for the band going up agaist OLP, am I right? Of course you wont hear Innocent and SOT on the radio if you're not listening at the right time. I doubt you sit next to the radio and listen to every song 24/7- It seems to me that these two songs are still getting very heavy play on 89x, 96.3 DVD, and 95.1 (Chatam station)
You said for OLP to use some strinsgs in the next record- Gravity was the record they used strings in the most- am I right? BBTS and SOT are loaded with them. I'm all for the technical and complex side of OLP but it's nice to hear some straight-forward rock sometimes too. Raine's voice will ALWAYS be distinctive- well, at least to the real fans.
Doesn't anyone else think this is a shaft to the fans, or is it just me that sees it this way?
A disappointment for the fans maybe, but not a shaft. They don't owe us anything.
And synthesizers? That would be the equivalent of No Doubt's latest piece of crap. I don't know about you, but I wouldn't want them to turn techno.

like where for example? you could very well be right but listening to the album the thought of overdubs had never occured to me.
Same here. I came in late so I'm a little confused. What on the album is overdubbed?

grow up matt for F*#$ SAKES!
he posted in response to a fans topic on his message board hmm when is the last time OLP has posted on the CC or even.
"whatever" on this cd was overdubbed b/c Raine's voice is distorted like it was in the SM days and well he didnt use the police radio so was it magic? The crowd is faded out and many parts the guitar is raised. The cd is okay but it is mostly all gravity songs and they say this is supposed to represent the entire past? In the Rolling Stone interview Raine said it is a closing chapter to the old OLP. That is the same shit he said after Gravity. Then they release "Our Time is Fading" which is a track that was obviously left off Gravity and Not Enough has okay lyrics but other then that it isnt much. Alan is right we will all buy album #6 but I have a feeling many of us will just put it aside and put in some music that is different and catches our attention like OLP did with SM and Happiness.

Realisticly though, his opinion is biased. I mean, he doesn't like OLP. Would you listen to a Britney Spears live (and I use that term loosely) album looking for the good or the bad? Matt went in looking for the bad. He found what he didn't like, and mentioned it when talking about whether or not he would make a live album.
Haha...
Britney Spears live (and I use that term loosely [hmm, "Britney Spears" and "loose" in the same sentance... what are the odds of that?

playing with the octave levels of different tracks is not overdubbing.
Overdubbing would be playing an instrument over top of the recording to make it sound better. Thay may have been done, but I just wanted to clarify.
