What Matt Good said about the Live album...

Post by nelison »

That’s a shame about the OLP live record. But really, what did you expect? Live records should be void of overdubs. If you’re a good enough band you should be able to do it live and get it right. Sure, record a whole bunch of different nights and choose the best one, but overdubbing is ridiculous. I wouldn't be surprised if there were overdubs of every instrument on that record at one point or another.

what does everyone think about this? To be quite honest I think it makes a lot of sense, and he has a point.

no... it's not MG vs OLP part 2... he's just giving his opinion on a message board. The topic was about whether he'd consider making a live album or selling bootlegs and he merely used OLP as an example... He didn't mean any harm by it, just his opinion. The past "battle" was brough upon by the media, Matt's even gone on record as saying he likes some of OLP's music.

I don't get it. First, what exectly is overdubbing? is it just re-recording stuff on top of the actual song?
Second, where does it say that the tracks were overdubbed?

this whole thread is dumb. really, who cares what matt good thinks of the olp cd? he just read what another message board poster wrote, it's not like he actually knows this to be true.

I agree with some of what he said.

I don't like the way OLP is trying to get RAWER... I really don't. One of the things I liked OLP so much was because of their amazing sound back in the Happiness... SM days... that wasn't raw, yet amazing.

Oh well... I shall say no more.

Cheers.

No, we don't want Happiness 2, we want something that doesn't have songs written in 10 minutes and recorded in 20. They think that taking their time with the music and using more than the normal guitar-bass-drums combo is bad. OLP's best music has come with lots of producing and more than three instruments doing the same thing. You can't say the sole guitar-bass-drums combo is much better than what OLP produced with Spiritual Machines or Happiness.
I faced death. I went in with my arms swinging. But I heard my own breath and had to face that I'm still living. I'm still flesh. I hold on to awful feelings. I'm not dead... My chest still draws breath. I hold it. I'm buoyant. There's no end.

ok well I only posted what he said because I felt that it was valid. There are places in the album where you can tell it's been overdubbed... sorry to say but it's true.

He's an amazing and intelligent artist, not just some guy who's looking to piss off some ppl...

i rather it be overdubbed than sound like a crappy bootleg if I'm going to spend $14 on it.

true, but I mean if you're selling a live album it should be live and not overdubbed... I dunno either way I guess but Mr. Good brought up a good point
