Walking In Circles is a fantastic song, I can't stress this enough, and I'll probably mention it again in this review, it's that good. Really has some great sound to it. I knew a few of the words, having seen it performed prior to the MMVAs in Toronto the week before, but nobody else up there recognized it. Superman's Dead was also well done, almost identical to the Live album version, including the drawn out intro guitaring. Raine did have a bit of trouble getting a good sing out of the crowd for a while, but kept working them up until he was satisfied. ) Is Anybody Home? was good, they went back to the cd version, without the long intro. Do You Like It?...just like the Live album again, heard some good comments from the crowd nearby about it. Now, I mentioned IAH? had just a normal intro, well, whoever gets to hear One Man Army the way it was done last night will be able to die happy (a little exaggeration, ok, but hey, you know
) It started out with Raine singing the first part of the song really quietly, almost a whisper, but not quite. The siren sound came in lightly, and he started into the second verse, but it was a little changed up, some different words at the end, then he went into a little rant about *I'm going to wash you from my hair* a number of times, then *I'm going to wash you off my hands* a number of times, then kind of mixed them up again (sorry if this sounds weird, but it was really cool), he was really into it, it was absolutely fantastic, then they went into the song and played the whole thing like usual. I really wish somebody was there to tape this version, because I'm telling you, it was the best live One Man Army I've ever heard, bar none. Naveed/Life got the crowd cheering well too, just like on the Live album, but without the extended Raine/audience chant before the second part of Naveed kicked in like the album has. All For You was another good one, nothing really stood out extra special though. ) Not Enough had the crowd going good again, more good comments heard. No Warning sounded great again, like at the MMVA preshow. Personally, I find it sounds a bit too much like Not Afraid and Not Enough, but still a good song.
This next song was fantastic. Raine intro'd it by saying he wrote it about George Bush. He said besides all his talk of capitalism and taking over the world singlehandedly, everytime Raine sees him on TV "he's got that stupid f***ing smirk on his face." (The crowd went crazy here). Then he said, this song's called Wipe That Smile Off Your Face. Absolutely amazing song. It sounds really Naveed-esque in some parts, a great haunting howl, I think of the word *war*, long, drawn out, lots of pitch changes, really sounded fantastic. If the new album sounds like that, and Walking In Circles, it'll be great! Clumsy was good, just like the Live album, got the crowd pumped even more still, since it's such a popular song. The Birdman was fantastic, a couple guys in front of me were talking about how wild it was, the whole *molesting* thing, and all the craziness. Cool solos by both Steve AND Jer while Raine was lying on the stage. Innocent, Our Time Is Fading, Starseed, all sounded really good, as expected, and Raine let the crowd sing 4am as he often does.
Oh, this show had REALLY heavy drum bass as well, it was phenomenal, really, really, deep and pounding, just shook the bones, it was inspiring. I couldn't end up getting a setlist, otherwise I could be more precise about it, but I did try! I saw a couple girls right next to me get them afterwards, and one went to the far end of the stage, but it was a great show anyways. I got a poster from a bar for the show the night before, as a small souvenir, that was good. I'm sure I'm forgetting some stuff, but the stuff about the new material and OMA was the most impressive I thought.
Raine is my fucking hero! Seriously! I hope this was recorded, or that this song shows up on album 6!
I don't like pro-government anything. I'd buy it so that i could destroy it.
