This is one of those occasions that an abortion is almost the only sensible route possible. The fact that both the mother and child are in danger is a good enough insentive for abortion.

I would say abortion in this case. Any other option would be wrong. The lady seems unfit to be a mother, and not to sound rude or anything, but odds are that baby will have some sort of mental problem that her mother has. If abortion is out of the question for the lady, I suppose adoption would work, but yeah.
I faced death. I went in with my arms swinging. But I heard my own breath and had to face that I'm still living. I'm still flesh. I hold on to awful feelings. I'm not dead... My chest still draws breath. I hold it. I'm buoyant. There's no end.

wow...I usually have a fairly strong view when it comes to abortion issues, but this is a really tough case

One thing I have a definate opinion about is the following quote:

"The howls of indignation of the pro-abortion lobby bespeak how zealous they are," says Mr. Connor. "Their underlying premise seems to be that it's in the best interest of the mother that her child be destroyed. I don't think that should be a given. It says the child should be executed for the crime of the parents."

It's that last sentence that gets me. Obviously, the biological father committed a horrible crime...but it says "parents"...that's plural...what crime did the mother commit? Being mentally retarded? That's not a crime the last time I checked. I guess you could argue that it was just a misspoken(sp?) sentence, but I think something like that should be thought out a little more...

Brutus is an honorable man
It's just coincidence that oil men will wage war in an oil rich land
And this one goes out to my man taking cover in the trenches with a gun in his hand
Then gets home and no one flinches when he can't feed his fam...

But Brutus is an honorable man...

i dunno
if they abort the child, it would be in like the third trimester, wouldn't it?
so that means this child is almost ready to be born and could survive if born premature.

I don't know if abortion is the best idea in this case...and we don't know if the child would end up being mentally retarded. I"m sure there is a chance, as there is with any other pregnancy, but you can't say that the baby will have a mental deformity or anything just because its mother has one.

whatever they choose to do, they don't have much time to decide, because the mother is already 5 months pregnant.

this shows us how messed up state care can be.

5 months is second trimester

9/3 = 3

1-3 = 1st
4-6 = 2nd
7-9 = 3rd

There seems to be more to this story than just the abortion issue. Someone with these ailments should be under constant care. How did she get left alone long enough to be raped? How come it took them 5 months to realize she was pregnant? I don't want to downplay the situation, it truly is horrible, but there are some other problems with this story.

I think they probably knew she was pregnant earlier, it was just a matter of deciding what to legally and ethically do.
