New Music For People Serious About Trying Stuff

Post by I AM ME »

Ok, i came up with this idea, People who are serious about music, and openminded, post a band that you don't think get enough recognition, list 5 or less songs. Then the trick is if you wish it participate in the thread you have to download all the songs if you can find them and give them a good few listens, afterwards writing what you liked and disliked about them to help other people "lurking" in the thread. Try to keep your posts to a minimum if possible because if everyone does it at the same time there's going to be to many to try and discuss. If it looks like there already a lot one day wait till tommorow to post a new one. Everyone understand?

Here's my band:

I Mother Earth: Yes i know i've been ranting a bit much, but i could really see alot of olp fans loving them if they were given a honest chance, it's one of those bands that you have to let grow on you, so don't expect immidaite hits.

"Like The Sun" "Love Your Star Fish" "Passenger" "No Coma" "When did you get back from mars"

enjoy! i threw in some slower ones, but IME offers alot more hard Prog rock then OLP. And Remeber Give these guys a chance and be openminded :)

"Pray for the sheep" Matt Good
"But it's alright, take the world and make it yours again" Matt Good

I felt it in the wind, and i saw it in the sky, i thought it was the end, i thought it was the 4th of July.

i know that this is only beating aerin to the punch but...

Jump, Little Children

not your typical alternative rock band but some of the music is just beautiful and really catchy without leaving the listener feeling like he or she has been had or that its pre-packaged. these guys are pretty talented and the lead singer has a beautiful voice. i advise:

"vertigo"
"angeldust"
"mother's eyes"
"violent dreams"
"not today"

as for a review of IME, i like their new cd and i love that song "like the sun" but listening to all of quicksilver meat dream makes one wonder if they know what they're talking about. kinda like they're premature prog-rock. i dunno...they do have some worthwhile songs though

Great start so far... two of my favourite bands already on the topic!

I started listening to Jump Little Children a couple years ago when a friend sent me "Vertigo"... I was blown away by their sound, and immediately proceeded to download a bunch of other tunes by them. Needless to say, I bought one of their albums the next day! These guys are amazing musicians, and their lyrics are like exquisite poetry... it's kinda sad they don't get the attention they deserve.
If you like what you hear, I recommend downloading a few more of their songs: Violent Dreams, The House Our Father Knew, Lover's Greed (my personal fave), and Too High.

Anyways, the band I want to promote to the CM is called OURS.
I'm sure some of you have already heard a song or two by them, but here are some of my favourites:

- Medication
- Sometimes (this is probably their most popular release to date)
- The Mean Between Extremes
- I'm A Monster
- Red Coloured Stars

man! I want to list more, but I guess 5 is the limit... ah well, enjoy the songs!

IDLEWILD is a scottish band which i saw live and who's cd i bought a couple months ago. some would call them punk, but to me their stuff is too melodic and diverse to fit into that category. some songs are:

"You Held the World in Your Arms" "(I am) what I am not" "A Modern Way of Letting Go" "American English" "The Remote Part"

i've really liked all the recomendations so far - i'm a huge fan of ime and one of the few who much prefers brian over edwin, jump, little children was a really cool sounding band, and ours is a band that i've been meaning to check out for a long time but never have until now, but i'm glad i finally have, they are an awesome band and i love the singer's voice. <--- run-on enough? oh well, it's late.

Ummm, surprisingly enough, I don't find myself getting into Louise Attaque for some reason. I guess its brilliance is just too far over my head.

The band I choose to hype is Audio Learning Center. Close your mouth, I know it's not Alkaline Trio. It's three guys that used to be in grunge bands back in the pre-Nirvana days in Seattle that somehow changed their sound to be somewhat "emo" and make catchy, heartfelt music. I personally like it, or else I wouldn't recommend it.

Check out:

The Shell (!!!)
Hand Me Downs
Favorite
Broken
Prescription

The songs are kind of long. Their stuff ranges anywhere from 1:30 to 7:45 so hopefully you'll actually listen to the music and not just turn your nose at the length.
I faced death. I went in with my arms swinging. But I heard my own breath and had to face that I'm still living. I'm still flesh. I hold on to awful feelings. I'm not dead... My chest still draws breath. I hold it. I'm buoyant. There's no end.

Ya know, the original point of the thread was to have people listen to the band that was recommended before the post, have an opinion about them, post it, and then have your own recommendation for a band. Now this thread is like every single other music thread where people just throw a band out there and say "LISTEN LISTEN LISTEN" and not actually listen to new music. Way to defeat the entire purpose of the thread.

Anyways, Mineral is definitely a good choice. You people should actually listen to them, like the point of the thread says.

 wow this idea doing really well, just a sugestion as i said in my orginal one, if there's already alot of sugesstion in one day, to wait a bit before posting your, it's makes it impossible for people to listen to it all, and for any feedback to be given.

most people don't. i couldn't either at first. the point isn't exactly the search for "brilliance."

chris, i downloaded some gloria record songs when you recommended them awhile ago and i LOVED them. have to try some mineral as well. i really like the TGR songs you recommended, although my favorite TGR song right now has to be 'a lull in traffic'. i think a lot of the people on this board would be into their stuff.

thank you Allan, remeber people there's tons other threads to posty bands you like, but please slow down with the reconmendations and don't recomend anything untill you have tried a previous band and can reviews them, otherwise people just post bands and it defeats the point of exposing bands
