So a couple days ago me and my friends were in the theatre watching Gerry (I will not comment on this movie), and the trailer of Spellbound came up. This is a documentary of the 8 children making their way to the National Spelling Bee in Washington.
Why do they do this? What is the logic behind gathering thousands of children and forcing them to mechanically memorize these most obscure words that would never get to be used in real life? I pity those children, and I pity those who discovers joy by tormenting these poor children. Would something like "Champion of National Spelling Bee Competition 1993" really help you in any way? What does this say about the world we live in? Maybe Bethany can tell me how fun it is to point our other's spelling mistake on various message boards, maybe the satisfaction of being the best speller on the internet is that enticing! I really don't know.
Al's emails put a smile on my face, even though all they say is "You've got a private message!"
