horrible?
we are the brand new beatniks. we are the down and outers.
we are the bleeding hearts, beating syncopated, broken rhythm.
our speed is often break neck. we need to slow it down.

I'm not registered either. But then again, that was a mistake that I didn't register. I thought I did it online, but apparently it never went through, so when I went to go vote for the Green Party in every race, I found out I couldn't, so I went home and slept.
I faced death. I went in with my arms swinging. But I heard my own breath and had to face that I'm still living. I'm still flesh. I hold on to awful feelings. I'm not dead... My chest still draws breath. I hold it. I'm buoyant. There's no end.

They say your vote counts. It doesn't. There are states that always turn out to be mostly liberal (mine included, yay), and states that turn out to be mostly conservative - and so that's how they vote at the electoral college. If the popular vote actually counted, I'd be the first one at the polls. The way it is, with the electoral college, your vote doesn't count one rat's ass. Not even half a rat's ass. That's America for you.

actually your vote does count, though it's a very microscopic % it is there. it's important to let those around you know that you want things done a certain way. it counts alot more when you vote in local elections. and local authoraties are going to bug you alot more then federal, that being said it's important to vote, especially during local elections.

your vote doesn't count when someone steals the ballot box, takes out your vote and those who voted like you, sets fire to your ballots, and stuffs the ballot box the way that one person wants it. this has been done before and there is a reason for those people and only those people who's votes were burned to honestly say their vote didn't count.

1. Gephardt, Cong. Dick, MO - Democrat
2. Dean, Gov. Howard, VT - Democrat
3. Edwards, Senator John, NC - Democrat
4. Sharpton, Reverend Al - Democrat
5. Kucinich, Cong. Dennis, OH - Democrat
6. Kerry, Senator John, MA - Democrat
7. Lieberman Senator Joe CT - Democrat
8. Graham, Senator Bob, FL - Democrat
9. Bush, George W. - US President
10. Moseley-Braun, Former Senator Carol IL - Democrat
11. Phillips, Howard - Constitution
12. LaRouche, Lyndon H. Jr. - Democrat

Those are the 12 people thus far who have entered the Presidental race. Some will likely drop out; others will join, also.

I just hope to the great invisible man in the sky that Lieberman doesn't get the Democratic nomination. That would guarantee Bush as President for another 4 years (although there would be such a division in Middle America, where the majority of the votes are conservative -- so don't ask me how Clinton won, TWICE -- and Lieberman is pretty much a conservative Democrat).

I'm personally, right now, voting for John Kerry over the rest of 'em by a pretty big margin. But, then again, the whole damn thing hasn't started yet.

Now... starving eyes... explain why we shouldn't vote.

The electoral vote is a direct representation of the popular vote. The electoral vote for a state must be whatever the majority vote was for that state. Now whether or not you agree with the weighting of electoral votes is a different story. I'll say this, though. A global popular vote would be very messy.

Okay, look at California, which has one of the highest numbers of electoral votes in the country. Say, 51% of Californians vote democrat, and 49% vote republican. ALL of California's electoral votes go democrat. That's a shitload of people in California whose votes count a big, fat zero. Your personal vote only matters if you happen to be in the majority in your state. We've got the technology to standardize the polls. We don't have to count pregnant chads. The popular vote could work, and indeed it is the only thing that could make the USA a true democracy, rather than the farce it is now. Gore won the popular vote. But, as you can see, what the people want doesn't matter in America.

I don't necessarily agree with the electoral college but it isn't as bad as you make it out. The votes of those people did matter, because if that state went the other way, then those electoral votes would've gone the other way. What you said would still apply to a popular vote. If 51% of the popular vote went Democratic and 49% went to Rebulican then those 49% still don't matter.

If you disagree with the electoral college and its methods, then do something about it. It doesn't matter because people do nothing about it.

i'm surprised no one has tried to change it by now, although i don't pretend to think that Canada's system is working perfect, the west is alienated here, and the PM is chosen before the votes are even counted in Mantioba which is only half way across canada, let alone BC....

in channel surfing this morning i stumbled upon those "intelligent" ladies of the view holding up a newspaper with GWB on the cover wearing a flight suit and stepping out of a fighter plane waving. They were commenting on how "hot" he looked. they went on to comment that the picture would be a good one to use in the re-election campaign since he looked so "hot."

now regardless of wheter or not Bush is or is not "hot" I find this a truly sad commentary on our values as a nation. is it to be assumed that we're all that shallow? Geez, if you're gonna re-elect that clown at least do it for what you believe is a relevent reason, not because you think he's "hot."
