Does anybody else think Raine isn't that good live?

Post by Fabio_kun »

Well... unfortunately I haven't been able to see Our Lady Peace live, mainly because I'm from Brazil, which makes it almost impossible.

So, I guess we've all noticed that Raine has changed his style of singing if we go through songs from Naveed, Clumsy, then Happiness (such as Blister, Annie) then Spiritual Machines and now Gravity.

Luckly I've been able to download videos from all these OLP eras, and I think I've reached this sort of 'opinion' about Raine's live singing, and I think he's way better in studio recordings then live... I just don't think it sounds natural when I see him singing live, specially when he's singing and he takes the mike out of the way, and his voice disappears for a while. I know this is him live, but I just wanted to know if anyone else thinks this way... or maybe I'm just the only one.

Cheers.

well it's incredibly difficult to re-create the perfection found on albums... not too mention he has to sing day in and day out so that's gonna do a strain on his voice a tad too

I like some songs better live, and some better recorded. I think he's good live, but it all depends...

Even though I think that they are amazing live, I can see where you're coming from. When I just listen to the live recordings, sometimes I cringe when he hits the high notes, but when you're there, it's so much better.

exactly, live recordings don't really do justice to actually hearing it live. sound quality on most recordings is crap anyway.

i think most of the cds sound pretty dull compared to live performances. I cant even listen to the studio version of birdman. OLP have the best live sound of any band that I have seen live. The instruments dont out weigh Raines voice nor does his voice out weigh the instruments it is perfect. Maybe this is why I have seen them 9 times.

I think Raine's voice has always been far better on the album
The only live performance I've seen where I actually thought his voice was right-on was Snowjob 2001.

depends on the song. listening to stealing babies live i wanted to kill myself, it was that bad. but then look at the live version of imagine or julia. beautiful, indeed!

and mr. maida kicks mr. good's ass live, thank you very much.

of course, that might of been because the matt good concert was in a curling rink...:freak:

i've heard him sound really good, and really crappy...

really good: on the much music I & I he sounded great

really bad: carnival at woodstock 99 mightve been the worst sounding song ive ever heard... also innocent on MTV's rock and roll hall oif fame show

sometimes he's on, sometimes he's not.

it's never perfect live, but that's what's great about live performances.

Well, he certanly has performed well, we can't deny that... but I think that MOST of the times he's not good live. I wish I had heard the Wondeful Future live, that must have been interesting.

I don't think it's all about audio recordings, I don't really believe that they make him sound worse. I think there are some pretty decent bootlegs out there, that shows everyone what he's capable of doing, which means sing well, as well as screwing up live.

I've heard versions of Stealing Babies, Hope, One Man Army that he was singing quite bad...
So I think it happens.

Just wanted to check if I was the only one  now I think I'm in the minority :P

Cheers.

I think, like any body...sports , drivers and singers all have ther off days, and certain days ive seen him he was dead on making things better, and then theres the off days which dont sound as great..
i think somtimes he gets to into it and puts mor emphasis on the show rather than the voice
