Hah, you're a funny, misinformed guy Jim. As soon as you train your ears to like this kind of music, of course you're not going to like it. In fact, I didn't like the Alkaline Trio when I first heard them. After a while of listening to their stuff, and hearing Bleeder for the first time, I got used to them, and now they're my favorite band.

Not to try and insult you, but what kind of bands do you like? I mean, if you like some of the popular rock garbage out there today, then yeah, you won't like this music because it so much better than what's out there today. Like I said, you have to train yourself to like better music.

And to add to Jeff's list: The Sex Pistols, The Damned, and The Stooges

By the way Jim, I have a great idea. When you refer to me in a message on here, try not to sound like a spiteful bastard. It works wonders on your people skills if you try the kindness bit.

Yeah, and don't get me started on Dan Andriano. His voice is pure beauty. I can fall in love with that voice over and over again until I'm blue in the face. He writes some amazing songs, they're not as morbid and unique as the ones Matt writes, but he still writes real songs that aren't whining. Yeah, good luck on finding some one out there today that writes, sings, and plays their own music and doesn't excessively whine.

well it's certainly not as if I d/l one song and listened to it for 20 seconds and then posted my comment. I have seriously given them a good listen and have tried out numerous songs, but they didn't seem to be very special in my opinion. it's been a good 2 months now that I've given them a shot, and there isn't a day when I don't listen to at least a couple of Alkaline trio's songs. Just seem like all the other bands that I can see every friday for $5 at the pool hall in my small town...
The problem is you're too much of a rock elitest. if it's mainstream then it's definately crap, especially those pop/punk bands who actually get well known, because heaven forbid that happens...

I never meant to come off as harsh, but you can't tell people their music sucks and then claim that yours is amazing. It just doesn't work that way. We have have different tastes and one taste in music is no better than another.

lyrics are great, anyone can write lyrics, no problem, but you have to be able to sing the lyrics, and get them across to your audience, and I never felt that way when listening to them. I pay more attention to lyrics than anything and they didn't impress me. sorry.

I am not a rock elitist Jim. Look at it this way. Where's the extreme talent in Good Charlotte and New Found Glory? They're punk posers and their lead singers have horrendous voices. I liked neither of them when it was cool to like them, and I don't like them now. I don't judge bands on popularity, but by how much the songs do or do not suck.

Alkaline Trio does not suck. There's not too many bands out there with the same sound and style that Alkaline Trio has. They go up there, they play their music, they drink, then they hang out with the fans. Look at Good Charlotte. They spend hours getting that assclown's hair to stand up like it does, then they take the songs that are not well written or played, and they go up there to get their money.

Alkaline Trio has been around since 1997 and their music has been getting stronger and stronger with each cd. You can't find another band that keeps getting better like ALK3 does, not even the beloved Our Lady Peace here.

And don't tell me that because a band is popular, they suck. I like the Clash, and everybody that listens to music know who the Clash is. How about Saves The Day, The Get Up Kids, The Ataris, Radiohead, and other bands of the sort. Check it out, they're all damn well known in music, and I like them. So don't use that on me.

I want Alkaline Trio to get popular. They've been playing 200 shows a year for the past six years, and they deserve extreme attention. I have been pushing their new single like mad, but yes, I don't like popular bands at all. That is why I am trying so damn hard to make Alkaline Trio well known.

Good Charlotte isn't like that at all They're a great bunch of guys who care about their fans .. not to mention how recently they've been promoting PETA at their shows and educating people on that. I was at the concert as well .. I don't remember anything about Less Than Jake other than a lot of noise .. GC being one of my favorite bands, obviously I'm gonna say they were great, and they were .. the only band there that night where I could actually hear them over the instruments, they weren't just noise, they talked to the crowd, the others barely said anything. NFG .. they were good as well .. nothing bad to say about them either. As for lyrics .. some of GC's lyrics have touched me in ways no other band has.

Anyways, you don't need to defend Alkaline trio. I don't think they suck, I just don't like them. thats it thats all. Your taste in music is different than mine, and that remains true if you replace me with anyone on this board. All i was trying to point out is that your taste is no better than anyone elses.

As for Good Charlotte, they were virtually unknown before their most recent album came out. They've been working at it for a long time now as well.

Jeff, anyone can write lyrics. It's incredibly simple. As long as it conveys some sort of emotion to the audience it will be considered great by someone. The simplest songs have been considered amazing while some of the most in depth lyrics have been deemed horrible.

Joey, I am sorry. I just don't like Good Charlotte. It's that simple. They took punk music and made it an image for 13 year old girls to dress as and gave them to be on year long PMS. I haven't met a single Good Charlotte that doesn't dress the whole Hot Topic spike wearing image, while wearing the GC shirt and acting like a dick.

I suppose if they didn't try to act so punk, then their music would be bearable. But they took something that I truly loved, and took the crowd that I fit into, and made it soft and cozy so I can be surrounded at concerts by girls just getting on their periods and guys starting to grow pubes. See, it's not purely the music, there's a whole system of why I despise Good Charlotte and New Found Glory.

Sorry if you don't agree with me, that's just how I feel about them.
