Post by laurel »

with the new version of imagine now out on the peace songs cd...i want to know what you think of it. if you haven't heard it, there's a clip at http://www.sonymusic.ca/PeaceSongs/tracks.html

i think raine's voice is awesome....but...this version just isn't as good as the live one, to me. i miss the piano.

Raine sounds horrible on it. Never thought that I'd say it, but a classic song like Imagine should never be done without a piano.

Raine's voice sounds great! I cant wait to hear the whole thing, the guitar sounds nice for a change. Man why cant Raine sing like that on the albums.

According to the liner notes Steve's playing keyboards on Imagine as well as guitar.

I really like it though - it sounds a bit more different to the original than the live version which I like in a cover song - you don't want to sound too similar to the original.

for anyone interested here's some info about what's OLP related in the liner notes:

there's a quote from Raine - "children have no place in war and we are proud to be a part of such a worthwhile cause"
and one from Chantal - "because I cannot ignore the atrocities that occur in my world, I am happy to contribute to the aid of children affected by war"

the thankyous include both OLP's tour manager (Kevin Meikle) and manager (Eric Lawrence) and then there's a special thankyou at the end:
"To Chantal and Raine, a special thanks for going above and beyond, once again, for this project and for War Child Canada."

and they recorded it mostly in Birmingham when they were over here, but they went back into the studio in London to do a bit more to it. And it's just Steve and Raine.

i think it's pretty good actually...

yuck.. it's awful. I don't like it at all. Raine is trying way too hard to sound original and all he is doing is butchering the song. The live version is a million times better.

I just downloaded it, and the song is awful. Corey's dead on. Raine's trying way too hard to change it up, and it sounds really bad. I think I'll stick to the live version (which is amazing).

yeah i thought the live version with the bass and piano was better and raine seemed to have more emotion live, this one is kinda boring
"How can we justify spending so much on destruction and so little on life?" Matthew Good

"The white dove is gone, the one world has come down hard, so why not share the pain of our problems, when all around are wrong ways, when all around is hurt, i'll roll up in an odd shape and wait, untill the tide has turned.....with anger, i'm dead weight, i'm anchored"- IME, God Rocket (Into the Heart of Las Vegas) ^ Some say this song is about a terrorists thoughts before 911

"Pray for the sheep" Matt Good
"But it's alright, take the world and make it yours again" Matt Good

I felt it in the wind, and i saw it in the sky, i thought it was the end, i thought it was the 4th of July.

on the bright side i was VERY pleasently surprised by Liam Titcomb and Jarvis Church, although i think K'naan butchered the song for Jarvis
