we are the brand new beatniks. we are the down and outers.
we are the bleeding hearts, beating syncopated, broken rhythm.
our speed is often break neck. we need to slow it down.
tired of being sleepless. tired of being broken.

Wow, for my money I'll take the Misfits over the wanna-be Misfits.
I faced death. I went in with my arms swinging. But I heard my own breath and had to face that I'm still living. I'm still flesh. I hold on to awful feelings. I'm not dead... My chest still draws breath. I hold it. I'm buoyant. There's no end.

You know their older stuff. It's nothing more than a half-assed version of the Misfits. I mean, yeah, AFI is alright, but they're not good enough for me to see in concert, unless they're opening up for a real band.

wow. i'll take in the fact that you haven't seen them live, or obviously given their newer stuff a chance, so i won't chew you out for this one. seriously, that's like if i were to tell you that alkaline trio is meaningless bullshit.

yeah i don't see any similarities between old afi and the misfits other than that both are straight forward punk rock. are the ramones a half assed version of the misfits too?

yeah and their new stuff is lightyears ahead lyrically and musically.

also note that alkaline trio is not meaningless bullshit.

I just can't get into AFI. The guy's voice is cool in the beginning, but after 15 minutes, I just want to rip my ears off.

Way to assume people, I actually have given the new AFI cd a chance. In fact, I've listened to it straight through on five separate occassions, and each time, I couldn't get into it. I bought the cd because it was cheap and my friends were hyping it a lot, and I regret buying it. It just doesn't do anything for me.

No, I haven't seen AFI live, because I don't like them. There's no point in paying $20 to see a band I don't like.

I do give AFI some credit though, their songs are original. They don't sound exactly alike like most of the "punk" music out there today. That's about as far as my likeness for them goes.

but a kid carries his walkman on the long bus ride to omaha
i know a girl who cries when she practices violin
cause each note sounds so pure
it just cuts into her
and then the melody comes pouring out her eyes
now to me everything else.. it just sounds like a lie
uh huh.. uh huh... uhhhh huh.

ahhh. not the right thread to be posting this but.. oh well.

You need to get an angry looking devil. The smiley one just takes the evilness away.

There's nothing wrong with AFI, but for some reason, I just can't get into them. I am not saying they suck or anything, it's just that the only times I listen to their albums is when I force myself to listen it, and that's not right.

lets be cool and post Bright Eyes lyrics in an AFI thread.
!EMiLY!

sweet blasphemy my giving tree
it hasn't rained in years
i bring to you this sacrificial offering of virgin ears
leave it to me i remain free from all the comforts of home
and where that is i'm pleased as piss to say
i'll never really know

Exactly, because posting Bright Eyes lyrics in one of the three Bright Eyes threads would be too much work. And obviously, both Bright Eyes and AFI play the same kind of music, and actually get inspiration from each other's music.

I've finally listened to this AFI you've been talking about. Actually I had to listen to it because I have to review it for the magazine I'm working for at the moment. And I can tell you it will be a positive review, although I'm not quite sure what to write exactly, it can only be 50 words.
