The same thing happens to every long-living band: they'll end up just playing hit singles and new songs. Nothing else.

it would be cool if somehow it was arranged that all the hardcore fans got to go to one concert where they'd play nothing but songs that they never play live like is it safe, under zenith, shaking, hello oskar, big dumb rocket, potato girl, blister, happiness and the fish, consequences of laughing, all my friend, the wonderful future, and a bunch of new stuff, and some cool covers, and i know i'm dreaming but it would be nice.

Well it's not like they can play all their songs in one concert... although that would just be AMAZINGLY sweet
So they gotta choose songs that they figure their fans wanna hear... i think someone should tell them their fans dont care what songs they choose, cuz all their songs are awesome

The problem is finding the balance. As most of us know the average non fan has trouble getting upbeat during the show if they have no clue what the songs are. So they have to play a bunch of familiar singles (like jeeze look at how the crowd reacts when they play SOT or Innocent, as compared to BBTS or Whatever)

The problem is that the band has turned their concerts into more of a production. They can't stray from what they have planned or else it can screw things up. Do they need synchronized lighting? I mean sure it looks cool sometimes but I don't think it's needed.
I just don't understand what the big deal is switching up the sets. I would think it would get boring to play the same songs in the same order every night (especially older songs that they're probably a lil tired of) They must know at least a good 25-30 songs without much trouble and they could probably pick up some others if they wanted as well (or just have like Raine do a solo of a song, at least then there would be less pressure on the band)
I dunno I understand that it's not easy to do show after show, night after night but I think that if they want to live up to their title as an awesome live band then they shouldn't discourage against adding something special for the diehard fans. At least they can appreciate it when a rare song is played and I would think the look on their faces would be pretty satisfying.
I can't wait until the day schools are over-funded and the military is forced to hold bake sales to buy planes.

I'm sure it'd be tough for them to play a completely different set every night, and they have to play the recent singles, but it'd be nice if they mixed it up just a bit. I saw them in August and then again in November, and I think I nearly exactly predicted the setlist before the second show... as well as what they would do onstage. And now, they're still using almost the same setlist, with a couple newer songs thrown in. And Raine still molests Steve during The Birdman, I believe (I haven't seen them since November, but I haven't heard otherwise). I love OLP's live show, but it's damn predictable.

they know.

Hahah, I feel the same way about that speech, he must have it written down. Its like he has to justify the fact that they "sold out" and did a song for the WWF. At least when Mike was there they would say this is our sell out song.
