about Steve and Raine's Birdman "ritual"

Post by buzhwa »

Sorry if this has been discussed before, but I'm a fairly new fan, only beginning to listen to OLP in 1999 or so (when 89X played their Happiness songs) and learning their names after my first concert in July of 2002. :) Anyway, why exactly does Raine hold on to Steve during "I feel him close"? Was this something he did when Mike was in the group?

i asked my friend if raine ever did this w/ mike and she said:
very rarely, Mike didn't "go off" like Steve does. SO Raine would go over to Mike or Jamie and just kinda put his hand on them or when he had the CB mic, he would go over to them and get feedback.
go fuck yourself.

Last time I checked, Mike WAS fun, he was the shit. Mike may not "go off" as much as Steve, but he sure as fuck interacted with the fans more than anybody else.[/quote]

Who cares if Mike "went off" or not, or even if he interacted with the fans more than anyone else?

He's an artist, and he's brilliant.

Anything else isn't important to me.

this is to answer a early post here.

as far as I can remeber going back to 1999-2000 whenever OLP did BIRDMAN live Raine would always grab on to someone during the *I feel him close* part.

he would usually put his hand out. As to the *Attack* he would do it to Jeremy( the drum kit) Jamie( where he leaned on his shoulder) or Mike. He even would outreach his hand to the audience. I never saw him do it to Duncan. I guess with Steve it just grew into a *ritual* where he would just pull down on him when Steve was playing. I guess for guitar effect. I asked Steve if this distracts him. he said no, it makes him play harder.

The only song that I ever saw Raine harrass Duncan was during OMA-where he lifted his chin up during the *walk like a winner part*

Hope this helps and answers your question

P.S. Mike and Steve are two totally different type of players. Both are awesome to watch. I just wanted to say that. I don;t think that Steve is better then Mike, I don't think Mike is better then Steve. They ae great in their own rights and both had unique styles. I will say that I do love Steve's solo in Birdman. That is so cool. Then again I loved Mike's solo when they played Hope in the earlier years. Now that was awesome.
