"does FILE SHARING support terrorism?"

Post by starvingeyes »

i uh, i really don't know what exactly to say about this, except for that it is maybe the dumbest thing i've ever heard. uh, wow. gee.

John G Malcom wrote:John G. Malcolm, deputy assistant attorney general in the criminal division of the U.S. Department of Justice, did say there seems to be some connection between illegal copying and organized crime, in that many of the groups profiting from illegal copies are highly organized and can have international distribution networks. Organized crime often supports terrorism, he suggested.

"These groups will not hesitate to threaten or injure those who tend to interfere with their operations," Malcolm said.

uhm. wow.

Damn.....guess I'm at fault for all the suicide bombings in the Israeli/Palestine conflict.

Who'd uh thunk it...

That's the WHACKEST thing I've ever heard! Probably some tool who is against illegal file sharing that figures this would be a easy way to help out the RIAA.

Ah... Penny Arcade. My daily source of news.

It's completely unfounded. They could take anything and associate it to terrorists.
Hopefully they'll associate exorbitant CD prices with terrorists and lower the prices. It could be like killing two birds with one stone.

But when subcommittee chairman Lamar Smith (R-Texas) asked Malcolm for examples of cases where file trading was connected to terrorism, Malcolm said he couldn't give concrete examples. "It would surprise me greatly if the number were not large,"

See? If you can't give an example, how the hell do you plan on supporting this idea?

"For too long, people engaged in piracy believed that if they were outside the borders of the United States, they could violate our intellectual property laws with impunity," Malcolm added. "They were wrong. This indictment and the extradition sends a clear and unequivocal message to everybody involved in illegal piracy that regardless of where you are, the Justice Department will find you, investigate you, arrest you, prosecute you, and incarcerate you."

if we as a race actually accepted this.. a lot of discoveries that were made and advances made wouldve either not taken place or taken place a while later... other than that small point.. i agree with you lol..

right now .. the folks in power needs answers.. they need reasons to prosecute.. they need to "give a face" to what all is goin wrong.. not to mention they have to come up with excuses to bomb iIraq and remove Saddam .. they have to publically put on a show to make it look like they actually have a reason to do what theyre gonna do.. when in reality.. like martin sheen said "bush just wants to hand his father saddam's head"

stupid florida
just had to go and figure out how to count didnt you?!

lol
jeb bush is actually a good govenor
he's doin a lot to better the state of the education system in the state (which other than duval county [has 2 of the top 10 schools in the nation for IB students and actually spends money to get better] is fairly shitty)
he's pledged to put a lot more money into education
he's also done a fair amount to promote the state.. of course having the pres as your brother has its perks but at the same time.. he couldve opened up oil drilling in the gulf of mexico but said no and stood up to his big bro.. which was of course only done cuz of the potential harm to beaches.. and well.. whats florida w/o beaches and oranges? a whole lotta nothing.. heh..

Nothing against Jeb....I spite Reno haha she's evil. I (might be one of the only ones here) really liked Clinton as a president, but him choosing Janet Reno made me want to throw myself into oncoming traffic
