Didn't some article say that Steve went to Canada to get one of the OLP albums (SM) earlier? I think that would make Steve a fan.

Or maybe I just don't remember right.

There are two type of popularity. Good and Bad
Bad- Nickelback-----I cannot stand them :evil:

Good- U2--This is propbably on of the few best bands in thw world

he would seem like the ultimate fan and now all his dreams come true but he has played on lots of other projects so it is just a lie in my opinion.

Unless he's lying himself and someone else didn't make it up for him because I remember seeing him say it himself in an interview and having the other band members say it as well.

OLP were mainstream in the US this summer.

They play in the biggest club in NYC and it sold out so that is mainstream.

ROB, Hammerstein is not the biggest club in the city. It your are talking a club then I say that ROSELAND is the biggest club in NYC, if you are talking concert halls, Madison Square Garden is the biggest.

BTW OLP played(headlined Hammerstein in 1998 during the clumsy tour, then came back and opened for 3EB there a month later)

GUYS Steve was a fan of OLP. Not a fan like you would think. He got in the band from a mutual friend(a drummer who played with OLP). The friend heard OLP were looking for a Guitarist and mentioned it to Steve who then auditiond for them. He was playing around in the LA area before joining OLP>

Well, I guess he liked them, but wasn't a huge fan. Then, when the other guys heard that, they mentioned it in an interview and because they are no longer saying original things in interwiews, they have said it ever since.

And, I personally think that Steve was a fan before he joined. Not hardcore like most of us, but a fan, nonetheless. And, I don't see why they'd make up that buying SM in Canada story, to tell you the truth. Seems like a crazy lie to be making up just to make him seem like more of a fan. And, hey, it could be true, who knows.

Where did that story originally come from, anyway? An interview? I've heard it a bunch of times, but have no idea where I first heard it.

Oh yeah, and that comment about Bob Rock blowing up cracked me up. :lol:

Was that a reference to when James Hetfield caught fire on stage??? :lol:

And, the wheelchair thing was frigging hilarious, too. :lol:

They really are getting old. Which is why I'm incredibly bitter that I'm not going to see them on the Summer Sanitarium tour this summer... it could be their last, and Monkey (my boyfriend... Metallica's his favorite [current] band) is going, but I'm not. :mad:

I want OLP to be successful but not to the point of overkill like Nickelback and Creed. However, if they made it big like the Beatles, then I'm all for it! The started and left with a bang!

OLP didn't sell out. They changed their sound but I disagree that it's mainstream. No one wants to admit it but songs like 4am and Clumsy were catchy. That's why people liked them. A record wouldn't sell a million copies in Canada and receive gold status in the US if it didn't sound good. Well, scratch that...yes it could but from the stereotypical point of view that OLP were unique and away from the mainstream, it's true. OLP might not have received much success outside of Canada, but in Canada, they are popular. They've always been popular and if they're not well-known, they're at least heard of.

Not everyone who's into mainstream ended up liking Gravity. I have a cousin who has always disliked OLP. She doesn't like how they are "too loud". Well, she listened to Gravity, and hasn't really changed her view. It's still "too hard, too rock" for her.
