Avalanche!
Avalanche!
Well, the highly anticipated Avalanche CD by Matthew Good was released today in stores accross Canada. Unfortunately, I can't get it until I go back to Ontario for Spring Break, but for those who have already purchased a copy, I'm interested in hearing what you think of the new disc.

but seriously, the man is not fucking around here.
let me put it into context.
if Jesus came down from heaven and used all of his Godly powers to make a record, it would be about 1/8th as good as Avalanche.
i actually played this album for a blind friend of mine, and now, not only can the dude see, but he's got x-ray vision. i hear they're already running tests with it on cancer patients.

Just got home with the CD, only heard if once though. And whoever told you there's a hidden track, that person is a liar.
This CD is definately the most refined work by Matt Good. Lots of the old MGB sound is gone. None of the Matt Good screaming voice like he does in the chorus of Hello Time Bomb and Everything is Automatic. The mood is richer, more depth, more melancholy, extravagent and diverse. I know I know these are really abstract terms, but that's really how the album sounds like. There are lots of interesting instruments and effects used on the album, and I never thought Matt Good would use voice effects, which he did to my surprise in this album. Favourite track right now is the title track Avalanche, it was by far the most experimental track in history of Matt Good, and to me it has subtle resemblence to Tom Waits. I was walking in the mall listening to this album, and I never had this haunting yet revealing feeling from music for a long time now, probably since the first time I heard of Tom Waits. I'll have an even more in depth review on the album when I listen to it more for a couple days, but it's absolutely a must buy for everyone.
Also, I will NOT rip this cd for anyone. If you want the cd and you live in the states, and don't want to/don't have a credit card to purchase online, drop me a pm and we'll figure something out. You can always send me a money order with the cost of album plus shipping and I'll gladly hook you up with this cd.
Now I'll continue my listening...

Al's emails put a smile on my face, even though all they say is "You've got a private message!"

I've got it now ^_^
I'm in the same boat as Odin really, I've listened to it once through, and was blown away at the richness of it. Avalanche is my favourite track so far without a doubt, but aside from it, stand out tracks for me are 21st Century Living and Double Life. It really is different from anything MGB, it seems to have transcended rock as a whole.
Oh yeah, best album ever. You, buy now.

Man, it was not easy trying to convince my mom to let me get another cd. But I guess I convinced her by completely spazing out about it and making her read this page.
